Quick question for those in the know.... do all Club Europe flights ex-LGW have the "dodgy" business seats?

I think you are referring to the CE business class seat where you would get a config say of 2-1.1-2 (the 1.1 being three "seats" across the middle where the middle "seat" is not used and is squeezed to the size of small baby antelope).

These would be similar to the millenium seats on QF where I perceive slightly less pitch.

The BA Club Europe (business class) seat type depends on the aircraft type. So all BA A320/A321/A319 aircraft have the same CE seat type. All BA 737 have the same CE seat type. Whether or not you describe them as dodgy is personal opinion. I am not sure if BA has any CE routes using 767 aircraft any more.

Apart from a few exceptions such as the ATRs, Club Europe seats out of Gatwick are the same as those out of Heathrow

On the single aisle aircraft such as 737/321 , the 3-3 seats are widened to give a 2-3 layout , though obviously the pitch remains at 34"

On the 767, the 2-3-2 is modified to 2-2-2

On the v small aircraft, the CE seats do not get widened, so the seating is the same as economy would be

Personally, I would not pay the extra for Club Europe if having OW Sapphire/Emerald status; just book economy and nab a seat in the convertible section of the plane where the pitch is still 34"; with status still have the main benefits such as lounge access and CE checkin

The flight that I was looking at ex-LGW is on a 737.

Expertflyer shows the first 3 rows as J - but when viewing map for Y, row 4 appears to also be 2-3 config.

There are I class cheapies available - so tempted to pay the little bit extra for extra SC, points and baggage allowance.

The 1st row of economy has the same configuration as Club Europe so will be 2-3. Personally, with sapphire/emerald status, Id recommend booking economy and taking 4A or C . The seating will be the same, you'll have the same lounge access and same check in.

I cannot see it being worth paying extra just for the CE meal and some points

The difference is 50GBP each way.

How many SCs will you earn for that? I am a mileage status chaser a bit but it needs to pay for itsef. How many people are flying - it could become a costy exercise - GBP50 each way comes out over $250 ...

GBP50 is a lot of money for an inflight shorthaul meal unless you do have a need for a lot of luggage

It isn't crazy, but pretty sensible that the 1st row of economy has the Club layout since the curtain is at the back row of business. Where the seats have been stretched/shrunk in business, this causes the position of the aisle to move, so that if walking from J-Y there is need to step to the left. With the curtain at the back of J , this cannot be seen v easily and so it makes sense to have a buffer area after the curtain to avoid accidents
