Awards and Kenya Air.

There does not seem to be any way to book an award of any kind originating from Nairobi.

I may have answered my own question but does anyone have any experience with this? I can book from Melbourne to Nairobi return but not the other way around. I can't originate from Nairobi even with a paid booking on the QF website. Starting from Africa I can only choose South Africa. The trip originating here is QF numbers but booking via the Kenya Air site is KQ numbers operated by QF. Is this why and is there any way around it?

My brother is coming home for a holiday and I am trying to organise an award flight for him.

The booking engine will not allow you to start from Nairobi, and a lot of other cities. You'll have to ring them up, and of course pay a 6,000 point award assistance fee.

There are quite a not of origins that can't be selected online. It can be very frustrating! I was trying to book a flight out of Cairo and it didn't come up, same with Amman. However, oddly, it will quite happily let you book out of Cairo provided it is the second onwards leg of the journey. EG: I was able to book HKG-CAI and then a few days later CAI-CDG. Cairo magically appeared in the booking engine for the second sector!

I believe it has something to do with Qantas' method of ticketting out of the departing country. IE: You book a flight out of HKG, the HKG office issues the ticket. I guess some ports aren't able to issue them.
