Hi
Does anyone know what happens, or what the policy is with award seats if you miss a connection?

I have two BA (club world) tickets, booked for late September on Qantas points, flying Rome - LHR - SYD, with 3 hours between arriving at Heathrow and departing for Sydney.

When I booked it seemed like plenty of time but apparently the flight out of Rome is often late - according to FlightStats.com it's been either late, very late or excessively late on 41 of the last 60 days!

If the tickets are on the one booking, BA will take care of any missed connections by putting you on the next available flight.

We had missing our connection on an award ticket SIN - FRA - LON and BA put us on the next BA flight from FRA - LON.

Thanks for the reply. The flights were done as one booking (Rome - Sydney), so it sounds like we are covered.

We too had a missed connection.
Flew BA FCO-LHR-JFK.
There were no more flights that day so they put us up in a hotel with free dinner and breakfast.
Ended up being we slept one night in Rome, next night in London and third night in New York.

Thanks again. It's good to hear BA also cover the accom. Sounds like departures from Rome aren't the most reliable - were you delayed because of the aircraft or the airport?

To me this one again highlights the importance of either leaving plenty of time between flights OR having everything on one booking.

Straitman,
We were delayed because of the plane.
There were at least six of us in the same situation.
Were also looked at very closely by immigration as we entered our length of stay in the UK as 14 hours.
When we arrived at the Renaissance Hotel they seemed well setup to handle us. There were probably about 20 or so that I saw check in and hand over vouchers

Immigration at LHR are very used to people having very short time in the country. I have entered the UK at one terminal (T4), taken the Heathrow Express to T1 and promptly left, spending less than 30 mins in the UK proper. It was quicker than taking the ld T4->T1 airside connection bus during the busy morning peak. I just tld them what I was doing, no questions or strange looks, just another stamp in the passport.

I have also had plenty of <24 hour transits, which helps to avoid the GB air passenger duty fine and allows for a few real ales with friends. Never been questioned, quizzed or received a comment more than "enjoy your stay".

When my wife and I fronted up to Immigration they made us go one by one, so I was with an Officer 4 down from my wife. The officer with my wife called out to the other officer. “Hey Joe, send that fellow down to me, I’ve got the wife”. Obviously saving me having to explain my short stay.
