URGENT:- I havent a clue what I'm doing here, in this thread, but this is my question:- I want to book an award flight leg:- australia - rio de janiero in february 2013, in time for carnival. Only one opportunity is showing (must be economy):- Feb. 11, (when carnival is 3/4 finished). Question:- If I grab this now, what are the chances of a better (earlier) seat becoming available?

None.

Well None is a bit harsh, but your chances are very slim.

A tool like expertflyer would maximise your chances, as you could put in a swag of dates/options to alert you when they appear.

Thanks. Reload. I guess everyman and his dog is flying to Rio next year. I didn't think it was THAT popular.

Oh well, one day of carnaval is better than none at all.

If your WP you have a better chance at creating a seat.

Thanks to all of you. I got help from the guys at qantas this a.m. and booked:-

Syd - Dallas - Miami - Santiago - Rio...arriving on the 8th February.

I'll probably sleep right through carnival!
