Hi

I'm looking to use my QFF points to book my parents a SYD-SIN flight in J class during late June or July.

The only available flights showing are with BA16 on a 777 (no QF metal available in J for 2 PAX ). My parents have never flown J, and majority of their flying has been SYD-SGN on VN.

I have read:
1) the food on BA J can be poor. Is it really that bad?

2) the only couple seating on BA J cabin is in the centre section facing backwards. Are these seats ok? or are the 2 seats by the windos facing each other ok for couple travelling together?

I want this to special treat for my parents, so am wandering if it is worth it to book the BA flight, just book Y with QF, and save the J for another time?

Thanks

BA business class is pretty decent with fully flat beds; the facing seats are, ime, prett decent for communicating with the adjacent passenger, so if they can get 2 seats at the side that would be nice. It is only if they want to sit side by side in same direction that the middle seats would be needed

Regardless, even the worst seats in business class are far better than any in economy; given that SYD-SIN is a daytime flight, you might want to consider ( if there is availabilty ) World Traveller Plus on BA or Premium Economy on QF ; being an afternoon flight the need for a bed is not that high and WT+/PE is a lot more comfortable than economy

As far as food goes, can't remember and it is a long time since I had a meal on a flight; I normally just want regular refills of sparkling water

Based on my last flights on BA J (2004, 2008), the food was fine, and I wouldn't describe it as poor. That said, I wouldn't recommend anyone fly J just for the food alone.

I think the J seats facing one another are well-suited to people travelling together, as they sit face-to-face when sitting up (including when eating).

Your parents will also be able to use the J lounge at Sydney prior to departure.

It's a lovely gesture of yours to fly your parents in this manner.

Thanks for the info on the seats. When it comes down to it, if the seating and service is good. I did consider PE, but again only BA available, and I i don't think the BA WT+ is enough of a 'treat'. Plus i wanted to get my parents access to the QF lounge in Syd.

Good point, even if BA food in J is not as other airlines, it will still be alot better than economy. So I'm feeling alot better about booking BA. Thanks!

Also, from SIN, my parents will make their way to SGN. For flight back to SYD, I was thinking of booking award flight SGN-DRW-SYD with JQ in Y (not worth the extra points to book starclass). However I'm feeling guilty about putting my parents through on a LCC flight:oops:, so am looking to route SGN-HKG(CX)-xfer HKG-SYD on QF.

Jetstar International is no worse than QF economy I would say and definitely not worth taking scenic journeys to avoid. An extra 1200 miles flying in economy would be far worse imo. Star Class is worth the extra points imo since it is just like domestic business class on QF.

Forget WT with BA, worst value I ever came across. J will make it bearable for the olds.
