I'm currently booked in F SYD - JFK in October.

When I made the booking the only option for the SYD - SIN sector was for the earliest flight which means I've got nearly 10 hours in Singapore.

Does anyone know if it's worth my time to call up a few weeks before my flight to see if I can get a later flight?

It's always worth calling up and asking.

Do you have enough miles to put a waitlist booking into the system for the later sector? THen you will be in the queue for it and get a notification if a seat become available. If it does, call the call centre knowing that you have a place for them to move you.

Experiences on how this will exactly work have varied. in some cases it is a complete refund and reissue. In other cases, the KF centre have been able to adjust the booking to take into account the other availability.

I'm jealous!

I can see that I can waitlist for the later A380 flight SYD - SIN

If I waitlist for it they wont automatically book the flight for me?

I think you'd be more jealous if i was flying the other way. In some way going over in F wastes the experience to a degree because they have just super menus for SIN - FRA and FRA to JFK.

I'm consoling myself with the fact there's much worse places to while away a few hours than in TPR

Waitlists have to be accepted if/when they come through so no they wont automatically book it for you.

10 hours is way too long for me in the TPR. It's nice but not that nice. When we had a long layover there, we refreshed after arriving on the flight from ZRH, slept on a lounge while waiting for a reasonably time to go to the city, then got back and had a meal before boarding.

We had a roughly 12 hour layover earlier this year, stopped in at TPR before heading to the airport hotel for a few hours sleep. Anyway 5-10min after arriving in TPR a lounge staff member came over and offered us a much earlier flight we declined due to 777 vs A380 and wanting to have a sleep in the hotel.

Been to Singapore many a time so no real interest to head into the city.

I'd prefer some sleep

Wish that was an option but only 1 flight a day to JFK

We had an 18 hour layover last Monday. We stayed in a day room at the Crowne Plaza. Gorgeous pool and room. But dreadfully expensive food so we slipped into the airport to eat.

During a SIN connection of 6.15 hours, would I have enough time to get to The Gardens by the Bay and would SQ be proving a free stopover tour? It's some years since I went into SIN.

I'm looking at SYD - SIN - AMS suite + 777 300ER which would suit me nicely for sub SQ100K points and $508. I would still WL the earlier flight I think.

Depends upon the hours that you are at the airport. 6 hours in normal business hours is plenty of time. You can check the info on the tours from T3 http://www.changiairport.com/en/airport-experience/attractions-and-services/free-singapore-tour.html and Airport Attractions - Singapore Changi Airport
