I'm working on a xONE5 itinerary, and I'd like to fly the first leg MEL -> [SYD] -> HNL or SYD -> HNL (can obviously get a cheapie flight to SYD if necessary).
I note that the SYD -> HNL leg is QF3, or code share AA7359 (this is from the Oneworld timetable desktop software).
However in the OW online booking tool, I can only select the QF flight - the AA one doesn't appear. Hence I get stung for the Qantas fines.
Is there any other way I can book to get on the AA flight hence reducing my charges? i.e. If I ring the AA desk, can they book me on this flight?
For comparison, my QF ticketed route would have fines of $716, whereas a similar route going direct to LAX on an AA flight have just $338 of fines. Admittedly this is one less sector so that would account for some of the difference.
Suggestions? Perhaps just bite the bullet and pay it?
