I was wondering if anyone can help me with this question.
I'm travelling with family to US next month on QF/AA and on the return leg i fly Las Vegas - LAX - SYD. The Las Vegas leg is booked on UA (Skywest metal) and i was wanting to catch a later flight to minimsie wait time in LAX. Looking at AA and UA flights there are nuerous cheap flights later that day, but when i rang QF they said it would cost change fees in excess fo $200 pp (all up over $800) before any change in flight costs.
I could book separate ticket for family for approx $450 on AA or UA, but was told that if i dont turn up for the original UA flight then the QF LAX-SYD leg may be cancelled as a no show. Subsequently i've been told that if i separately ring UA and cancel my flight but tell them that i still intend to do the LAX-SYD leg then it would be OK to do this and i could book the later flight separately.
Is this true and do i run the risk of having the LAX-SYD flight cancelled?
