I've had two hires for small SUVs at BNE domestic over the past two weeks (excellent rates), and they had these things in common:

* Had to attend desk (I'm Avis Preferred - should be able to just walk to vehicle) and queue of 3-4 pax in front; slow

* I and other renters checking in at the same time had to return to the desk because of various issues. More slow

* In my cases, I hadn't received the e-mail with photos of car condition, so had to go back and request;

* In both cases, when e-mail with photos arrived, many were blurry, in poor light and the car was wet. Could have hidden any number of dents or major scratches.

* As it happened, both cars had small dents on both sides due to adjacent car doors hitting them. Couldn't see these on the e-mailed photos. On the second return, I went into office to complain about photos etc - was told that little dents like that are considered "fair wear and tear".

The station seems to be permanently understaffed, and the quality of service is poor, accordingly. If it wasn't for the very good rate I can get, I wouldn't go near them again.

Have used Brisbane a number of times recently - had x1 experience where car wouldn’t release via app, required manual intervention from staff.

Other times have been fairly smooth.

I think the app and the exit gates aren’t well sync’d.

I’ve had excellent cars (new / almost new) and no other issues so I’m sticking with them for now. I dumped Hertz due to incessant billing issues - I’ll take clunky carpark exit over that……

That's why I generally use Avis if I have to rent. I've had issues with others demanding payment over dents (preexisting) that were smaller than Avis' fair wear and tear dents. I don't care if the car is a bit battered, I do care about unfair demands.
