I didn't know this was a thing: cakes to celebrate a new route.

Anyone been lucky enough to taste a slice of one of these cakes?

Yes! It's a thing :) Have read lots of inaugural route trip reports and there's always a cake or cupcakes to celebrate. The ones in the story are pretty elaborate, and the Qantas one is pretty cool.
