Avianca on the verge of bankruptcy

I have 340,000 miles left in my account. Damn! I have used around 160,000 and definitely got my money's worth but that's a lot of business and first class flights to be sitting on!

What's everyone's plan? Ride it out?

Unfortunately the great majority of our LM miles is in the form of F awards on ANA between Japan and the USA in late November.
Hopefully might still go but doubtful.

.., but big picture I’ve done extremely well with LM over the years.

Agree!

Re Lux-liz's comments - the party might have been over exAustralia for a couple years, but elsewhere in the world it was doing ok! Lufthansa, Swiss, ANA... all readily available for TATL and EU-Asia routings. Air China was pretty good for TPAC. TG was fine for Europe to Asia, and sort of ok into MEL.

Email this morning from Avianca:

I wanted to reach out directly to let you know about the actions Avianca is taking to make sure we have the financial strength we need to continue serving you well into the future.

Today, Avianca voluntarily filed for reorganization proceedings under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code. We did so to protect our business as we continue to navigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as comprehensively address our debt and other commitments. We considered many other possibilities before determining that a reorganization made possible by the Chapter 11 process is the best path forward to protect the essential air travel services that we provide across Colombia and important locations throughout South America, Central America, North America and Europe.
.....
Avianca will continue to operate through this process, and Avianca will return to the skies and continue to fly once COVID-19 travel restrictions are gradually lifted.

BUT then:

The LifeMiles™ program is administered by a separate company and is NOT part of Avianca’s Chapter 11 filing.

.. and from their website, at (great domain name ! 😮 : English - Customer Information - Avianca :

You can also continue to accrue and redeem miles from the LifeMiles™ program for your future travel plans, including Star Alliance partners and other airline partners, at participating hotels, rental car agencies and other partners.

So ... fingers crossed for those holding bundles of LifeMiles.
