re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Just did a bit of a search on PER-SIN on the LM site, and it looks like J is now available on SQ on the occasional Tuesday (based on April-May). Crossing my fingers a few other days open up! :)

Not really a change as I noticed this a while ago. It comes and goes a bit....but likewise hoping it opens up a bit more!!

Bummer! I thought it was a sign of things opening up (I don't often fly on Tuesdays, so never noticed it before :) )

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Is it normal for mixed cabins to show up in the search?

Wow indeed! OMG. Wow!

Whaaaaaaaa?!?!
This would have helped me immensely, LAST week. Nonetheless, this is incredible news for people out of Perth!

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

It appears the Mixed Cabin thing is working for lots of routes. One downside (hey, it's still a good "enhancement") is that you pay the higher class redemption for the whole booking. So if a long haul / short haul combo is long haul Economy and short haul Business you pay the long haul as Business.

That's true, and a side-effect of this is that because the site found a flight combo for you instead of saying 'sold out', you no longer have that week-span of flight availability to check other nearby dates; you need to do a separate search for each date. It would be good if the next enhancement was some kind of 'my dates are flexible' feature in the search.

Overall though I'm tickled pink at this development.

Oooooooooooh, I wonder though if this will have implications for the screen-shot method of booking? Mixed class bookings don't replace the usefulness of the screenshot method for all-J routes, but I wonder if they'll start pushing back and saying 'you need to book through our website, there are flights available for the route you want'.

I also wonder what the baggage rules will be.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

"
  • Your selection includes mixed cabins, meaning combining segments in economy, business and first class. The mileage needed for the whole award ticket corresponds to the mileage for the highest cabin. Reimbursements and date changes are subject to an administrative charge. Date changes are subject to availability. If there is no availability on the redeemed cabin on the desired date, if the member chooses to do so, cabin changes are allowed if at least one segment of each Origin/Destination is on the highest cabin. Change in cabins (even to an inferior cabin) will not result in a redeposit of the redeemed miles. Terms and conditions apply to the redemption of award tickets in mixed cabins, which can be found in the Terms and Conditions of the LifeMiles Program."

While I'm in no way to privy to LifeMiles management conversation you have to think the aforementioned screenshot method was taking up a fair bit of someone's time at LM and the business case to make the upgrade to their IT systems would have been at least partially predicated on reducing/removing that manual effort. It has also fixed some known common J routing issues involving TG.

So yes, I suspect there will be some pushback on requests for manual processing via the screenshot method.

I'm loving it today!:) Opens up so many options now.

This must make LM the best scheme out there at the moment. Just hope the golden goose doesn't get "enhanced".

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

OMG this is fantastic. I am SUPER interested to see if mixed class F and J awards are available! No issues paying higher class for whole journey!!

Definitely Japan to Perth and I'm sure other cities. F to BKK and then J to PER for 50k one way:p

One way around that would be to search for first class (hope for no availability) then click the business class tab.

We are still going to need screenshots to go to Europe though - I can't get anything to work
