No flat bed / smartium SYD ICN (routinely). Better chance on the US routes but not 100%. Not sure about Europe.
Thanks, I thought they were rolling it out to all aircraft last year but apparently not!

SYD-ICN is angled-flat. I flew that route Oct 12 it was pretty good. Great for a day flight, service fantastic, Korean food good. Wouldn't be ultra keen to do it in reverse overnight.

There is a thread on flyer talk re rollout. I think it's "paused". Overnight ICN SYD was 5/10 for comfort vs overnight ICN LAX in smartium 8.5/10.

Can anyone confirm SYD to ICN is in the new Smartium seats?
afaik it is not

We flew Sfo-Icn-Syd in J on OZ in Jan this year. Had the new Smartium seats between Sfo and Icn whcih were very nice and flat: 1-2-1 seat configuration in J. Between Icn and Syd had the old J which is angled flat and 2-2-2 seat configuration. The IFE is rolling and not on demand in the old configuration :( still better than Y!!

Indeed, they track the rego's of the planes that have the new smartium seats so it's worth having a look there. Those birds rarely fly to SYD though, only if you get lucky! I flew the old product on the SYD-ICN in december and it was nothing special. I loved the cutlery though :D

FWIW we recently (as in a week ago) did SYD - ICN - CEB on Asiana J thanks to LM. I have to say I was pretty underwhelmed. It's a long flight at around 10 hours just to ICN and with no VOD we were glad to reach our destination. The rota of IFE was limited to say the least and while the service and food was good, the hard product was not. Mind you, I'm not complaining, anything above Y is always good by me, it's just that given the choice, I probably would not go that route again unless I had a requirement to stop in Seoul. By comparison, we also just completed TG J from MNL - BKK and the difference was chalk and cheese. The cabin service and layout was easily better as was the IFE and the seat comfort.

Both were 777-200 series from memory however Asiana do a kind of odd 2,3,2 seat config while TG go with 2,2,2.

I flew out of CEB with CX and they operated a spanking new 4 class plane. Can't remember which type but had the new J layout. I had bulkhead Y but was op-upped to Y+. Was nice to get the op-up however I lost my 3 feet worth of legspace in Y. I think I will burn some points for CX J instead of any other option (OZ,KE, TZ, AK etc).

I too am looking forward to seeing if CX J is available (via USDM) from SYD to CEB. Sounds like you are a frequent visitor to the island...
