Hi,
Those who live in Canberra, is there an average time trees are in foilage in April? Wanting to book a trip on the sale that ends 20/11. Thanks for your help.

Yes, generally mid-April is the best time but I noticed this year it was a bit earlier, which may have been a good indicator of the cold winter it turned out to be.

I've lived in Canberra all my life and I couldn't have answered this. I must be more observant in future!!

I was a little surprised I could answer this, then I simply thought back to when I swear the loudest about leaves falling onto my car...

Actually, according to local folk lore that is the day you're allowed to turn your heaters on. This is despite the fact that by then you've often had several days below zero.

It's not just folk lore, I do know of people who will not touch the heater before Anzac day. A friend of mine was consistently complained when we had really cold nights (eg freezing) just before Anzac day and yet her mum refused to let the heater go on... As for me, if it's cold I put the heater on, if it's hot I put the air-con on, I don't see what an arbitrary date really has to do with anything.

I know that the first frost should be after ANZAC day and the last frost before Melbourne Cup day! I was always told not to plant tomatoes before Melbourne Cup day... not that I'm in the habit of planting tomatoes...
