Are gyms only open for double vax in Sydney?
Yes my gym wouldn’t let you restart your membership until you’d provided a copy of your covid vaccine certificate.

Is the gym forced to close as well, or just deep clean?
Not sure it wasn’t mentioned that the gym would need to clean at all. They may not have given me the details but the cleaning seems to have gone out the window as theatre.

Schools also seem to be a hotbed particularly primary with no vaccination.
Just talking to a neighbour who is a school principal. She doesn't really know how they can stay open, as each time an infected child comes to school, they go through a cycle of isolating contacts, and deep cleaning. So, a couple of kids, and you have no teachers.

That will all end soon.

This year will be problematic.

Though by the time 1st term starts in 2022 on 28th Jan in Vic it is fairly likely that most school aged children including 5+ will be fully vaccinated.

That’s been one of the most remarkable vaccination drives - the 12-15 year olds were basically increasing by 10+ percent a week… kids I hope will have the same rates.

Yes in Vic the 12-15 cohort went from 3.3% first dose on 12th September to 74 % on the 17th Oct, 5 weeks later. 13.3% per week. The rate slowed after about the 8th Oct and the last week till 23rd Oct inclusive was about 6%.

As parents would be key drivers one would assume that the 5-11 year olds would if the access is there, which it should be, would be as rapid. Potentially even more rapid, as there should be less 12+ competing with them for doses.

I’ll be in the NSW case numbers tomorrow. Very mild symptoms and double vaccinated…

According to the contact tracer I spent an hour with this morning gyms are a big source of spread.
Out of interest, what caused you to get tested? I'm interested because as things open up, there's going to be a lot more people in your position.

Symptoms, just thought they were hayfever for a day or two (I react very badly to some oak trees on South Dowling St) plus combined with working to 1am on my masters dissertation I thought the fatigue wasn’t symptoms of covid. Also been training at the gym 4-5x a week so feeling pretty zonked.

But I decided to double check if I still felt less than 100 percent on Saturday morning.

Interestingly my partner just tested negative despite him being a household close contact. We now have to decide whether one of us goes into alternative accommodation.

I’m locked in the spare room and wear a mask and sanitise when going to the bathroom. He leaves meals at the door. It’s kind of like being divorced, we communicate by text or by yelling through a locked door.

What's the latest consensus on the effectiveness of hand sanitation in preventing surface transmission? Or is it more theatre?

I would have thought that unless your covid laden hands touch your eyes and nose, your skin microbiome kills the virus on the hands in minutes?

I see Covid patients every day at work. I’m wearing full PPE but I have experienced a few bouts of what I took to be hay fever over the past couple of weeks and got myself tested. Luckily negative.
Best wishes on your Iso and recovery.

Q

From the sounds of his illness, he could well be delirious and I doubt he would be charged for trying to escape ward
I suspect there may be more to this story than is being released. I would think it very possible that charges for attempting to escape the ward are going to be well down the list of concerns.

Its good to Lookback from time to time. (2 months)

1) Yes - QLD nailing borders shut work. VIC not so much. There will be other variants.
2) Every metric is falling in NSW. Though Reff might be starting to creep up - can only look back on a 5-7 day period. Lockdown ended for 2Jab people. CovidZero is not policy anymore
3) Yes the 1100 am freakshow has ended. People will continue to die from other causes. Lots of talk about people with comorbidities being more at risk of dying from Covid but politicians do not dare fat -shaming but continually shame everyone else.
4)Everyone vaxxed and unvaxxed mixing in Woolies/coles/Aldi and Bunnings/Mitre 10 - as they have throughout the pandemic
5)Domestic Vax Cert and Internal Vax certs
6)Getting there, excess of jabs compared to people wanting jabs. AZ production to end
7)Whats the point of grinning behind a mask?😷. Most people have had enough. Most politicians now know they have used their last bullet.
8)1 month earlier for NSW. 2 weeks earilier for AUS
9)Unvaxxed are already let loose now despite the 1Dec - no one is checking Vax Cert at entrance to shopping malls - especially Westfield. Ive had to only show Vax cert once since Oct18
10)No one is letting it rip. Its a gradual return to normality. That was a journalist comment looking for a headline. I dont think NSW falls into the "Let it rip" category.
11)Yes
12)Its still happening and people still getting positive but becoming less relevant in many places. India no longer overwhelmed. In other places, politics of the pandemic still playing out.
13)WA premier doing Nudge politics. Walked back reclassifying QLD from low risk to very low risk. Also trying to entice unvaxxed people with a free sausage sanger at Bunnings.. 59% at the moment. Even lost PER to DRW re QF787. But the electorate apparently backs him
I'd forgotten about that post :) It actually aged pretty well given it was a few weeks before the NSW 70% roadmap was presented on September 9th, and at a time other states were shocked and mocking the thought of us opening up NSW with any 'mystery cases' in the period prior to opening. Remember when we looked at mystery cases? Ha - those were the days!

Just on the Westfield thing. I've experienced the same for the mall, but not at the individual store level. Most, have been very good with checking my status, even if not from the moment I entered (some small stores only have 1-2 staff, and have to play catch-up on walk-ins). Westfield houses a mix of non-essential and essential retailers, so it's not really viable to stop them at the main mall entries; just at the shops who need to check.

Cheers,
Matt.

Well it was a mixed bag when I went out on Saturday night here in Melbourne. First to local pub - very well set up and ensuring check in and vaccination certificate before seated. Allowed us to sit for over 2 hours as well which on a busy Saturday night, I was kinda expecting a 90 minute time limit.

Then moved on to another bar that seemed to have under 20 (or close to it) inside. Just told us to take a table and order from the bar. Sweet! I think at one point there were easily 25-30 people in the bar plus a couple of staff, at times they did refuse entry to some punters wanting to have a pint or seven.

Frankly I could not possibly have cared less who was or was not in the bar and I had a lot fun. So not everyone is following the rules to the letter but does it matter any more?

I think only to the extent that if there is widespread, flagrant non compliance by venues, Big Brother will use it as an an excuse to limit things again, or slow the rollout of 'freedoms' in Victoria.

Hospitalizations down by 6, ICU down by 3

Article form ABC that shows 89% of the deaths in this delta wave were in those who were not fully vaccinated, with majority of deaths being in the 80+ age group.

It's all over, 80%+ double juiced in Vic & NSW & 19 of 20 ppl soon (95%) to have 1 jab so likely to be double juiced soon too.

Everybody in those 2 states soooo over the lockdowns, we all see the figures of just 5% of us end up in hospital & the world around us moving on, we want to see our family & friends more than between lockdowns.
Police not bothering about little discretions I see.

Others can comment on other states, but we're done, finished, kaput....meetings regarding heading back to office next few days....slap on a mask where rarely req'd, no problem with that, but bring on summer & 2022, covid so yesterday!

100% agree, few give a toss any more. Might even join the gym again after being very confident I wouldn't expose myself to the additional unnecessary "risk".

Watch out though if you get tested you'll be facing 14 days in the slammer like me if you're positive but with minor symptoms, and anyone you've spent more than 15 mins with maskless will be in covid jail as well for 7 days since they saw you.

They need to move away from 14 days to more risk based assessment or otherwise testing will fall off a cliff as people with minor symptoms avoid testing, particularly if they are in a vulnerable category where they don't have access to sick leave.
