Of the 262 locally acquired cases reported to 8pm last night, 88 are from South Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD), 88 are from Western Sydney LHD, 31 are from Sydney LHD, 21 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, 17 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD, 12 are from Hunter New England LHD, three are from Northern Sydney LHD and two are from Central Coast LHD.

Due to a notable increase in community transmission in recent days, twelve suburbs in the City of Penrith Local Government Area (LGA) will now be part of areas of concern, along with the eight previously identified LGAs, and have additional restrictions from 5pm today (Sunday).

These suburbs, which are adjacent to the coughberland and Liverpool LGAs, are Caddens, Claremont Meadows, Colyton, Erskine Park, Kemps Creek, Kingswood, Mount Vernon, North St Marys, Orchard Hills, Oxley Park, St Clair, and St Mary’s.

Three new cases have been identified on the Central Coast, all of whom are contacts of previously reported cases. Two cases are linked to Lake Munmorah Public School and one case is a household contact of a case linked to a workplace in Sydney. This brings to 12 the total number of cases on the Central Coast.

Seven new cases have been confirmed in Hunter New England LHD, bringing to 20 the number of cases in the district, three of which are in Armidale.

One new case has been confirmed in Armidale, a household contact of the two cases reported yesterday. Four new cases are in the Newcastle area are young people – two linked to the Blacksmith Beach gathering and two to the University of Newcastle. There are also new cases in a student at Morisset High School, who is a close contact of a previously reported case, and man in his 30s from Raymond Terrace – the source of his infection is under investigation.

3 are from the CS Square Shopping Centre which is near the Spectacle Hub. One is from real estate agent. So this is where community spread from casual type contacts is occurring.

Can't read the photo but NSW Health daily report mentions both 12 and in a later paragraph 7 for Hunter New England LHD.......there might be some tricky counting somewhere.

The gentleman had dementia from the series of messages posted.dementia is one of the conditions that predisposes you to severe covid and death.

And people with dementia are able to get vaccinated, if their care takers consent for them. My Mum has early stage and i made sure she was vaccinated as soon as 1B opened.

Fairfield really doing well - Georges River got a shout out and might escape being 'of concern' and Canterbury-Bankstown, coughberland and Penrith getting worse

Not yet useful for outside Sydney since they don't have more than 7 days of case.

Somebody asked Gladys during the press conference why no testing centres were open in the Port Stephens LGA on Sundays (immediately north of Newcastle), despite them having exposure sites.

Nobody (including DCHO) could give an answer and it was almost like Gladys didn't know where Port Stephens even was.

I know the situation is much more dire in Sydney but they are coming across very Sydney-centric - I believe they didn't even mention the Newcastle cases in the press conference today.

The gentleman was at risk of so many viral diseases. It sounds as though he was very frail.

It’s certainly very sad. However the death of a frail, old man with dementia is certainly not unexpected (and in many cases, it’s a relief).

It’s not healthy for this family to have their grief disrupted by a political agenda. Blame is a part of the process, but to appoint responsibility onto the NSW Premier rather than the natural process of life is somewhat misguided.

Confirmed positive cases are reported up to 8pm, and included in the official NSW case numbers reported at 11am the following day.
However, sometimes NSW Health and Hunter New England Health will announce other cases that are confirmed after the 8pm reporting cut-off, to ensure the community has the latest information available.
So while HNELHD has announced seven new cases in the region today, NSW Health has reported 12. This is because some of the cases announced yesterday by HNELHD were confirmed after 8pm the night before.

What's worrying me is that Brad Hazzard thinks 50 covid patients in ICU is enough to justify a lockdown. I'm concerned that when 70% are vaxxed that still means 30% are not vaxxed, might get sick, might need ICU and that there might be enough of them to spook Hazzard et al into yet another lockdown.

This is concerning. And it doesn’t make sense. We pay amongst the highest taxes in the world (and a separate levy directed to health), and we can’t handle a few people in ICU? The UK was having tens of thousands of cases a day and the NHS was never “overrun”, so why are we so much worse? And why can the government not be held to account for this?

The new case in Cairns has Cairns Region going into a 3 day lockdown.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says she is very concerned about a single positive case in Cairns — a taxi driver who was infectious while in the community for 10 days.​

Over 60 and unvaccinated with 20 to 30 passengers each day (WIN reporter). Potential to spread not only in Cairns but also beyond.

The case in question according to his son could not be vaccinated due to serious health complications and that he was not well enough to be vaccinated.

Dementia is not the reason he was not vaccinated.

Others that have died may also have had reasons beyond choice as to why they were not vaccinated. Others will have chosen to not be vaccinated, but it is wrong to assume that not choosing to be vaccinated has been the case for all of them. The information is not known unless a relative chooses to comment on it as in this case, and in this particular case we know that they were a pro-vaccination family.
