Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Anyway, while the rest of you discuss politics and gaslight each other  , the virus is creeping around SW Sydney.

I'm more personally involved in these twin outbreaks because we have a large manufacturing site in the region and we are closely watching what the NSW State Government is going to do....

Asking 1000 people to self isolate, that is a big task and I'm sure there has/will be leakage...

😂. The AFL are in a situation where there won't be a choice. But their acceptance will be phrased in such a way as to make it sound like the AFL are being proactive and moving it to a location to better promote AFL in a State that focuses on a different football code.
Melbourne Cup - they will run it without the crowds. The Tennis - when we attended one match a couple of years ago we were jammed in so tight whilst waiting to enter that people were fainting!

And then there is the Boxing Day Test match! 😱
The AFL GF will be held where the AFL will make the most money. States will have to “pay for the privilege” of hosting it. There will have to be contracts potentially broken and will need compensation. October is still a long way off though

NSW Medical Officer just said that the pub with the outbreak is frequented by truck drivers…who drive freight across the country. They’re now calling for assistance from other states to assist with this.
I'd hope that truckies would be easier to trace than the average Joe. There is also an MP who is now in iso. It must be a great pub!

Not in a Covid/contract world. Discussions would be happening right now.

NSW - be careful for what you ask for, QLD will probably close the borders.

We absolutely cannot have freight disrupted whatever they do so how are they going to manage this.....?

Definitely a difficult one. Some freight routes are easier than others to monitor and implement safe practices eg MEL-ADL has the Nhill transfer and you could arrange ADF/Police etc to monitor change overs

I was just listening to a radio report about fines issued at the Queensland border to people providing false information on their Queensland 'visa' application. Apparently one busload of 20 passengers generated 24k in fines as the passengers were denied entry. I was wondering if these are Queensland state fines or can they be federally-enforced? It would seem a big loophole if Queensland can issue you a fine, deny you entry and then if you don't pay cannot enforce collection because you are not in Queensland.

Whilst we are on politics, John Barilaro, the leader of the National Party in NSW and Deputy Premier, has kindly offered to host the Melbourne Cup, AFL Grand Final and the Australian Open tennis in NSW.

I am sure Victoria really appreciate this offer and expect an announcement accepting it sometime this morning.

Lol....Deputy Premier.

Those are so far away at the moment.

Also NSW not out of the woods yet.

lol

With them answering the source question earlier and the truck driver issue........seem possible (unlikely lol) people of influence are reading this blog.

I doubt it would be a problem to enforce the payment of fines. Fines for traffic and criminal offences are regularly handled across state borders.

About the only people who may not pay are foreign residents who leave Australia with no intention to ever return.

Crossroads hotel is on the Hume Highway and a regular stop for truckies or anyone driving from Vic to Qld, whilst they havent found patient zero yet, you can bet the source was someone who have driven up from Melbourne. I heard interview from some people being tested who said they had dined there without signing in, so it could be as simple as a someone stopping in to use the bathroom (skipping the registration, as they didnt get a table or done in).

From what I hear its not so much a pub for locals but more for those looking for a stop on a long drive and since its been linked to cases in Blue Mountains and the army base (both which are a long way from Casula) this would seem to support that.

I really hope they can get this under control - I will go mad if I cant go to Qld in few weeks as planned, Im so so sick of being at home. This is the most time Ive gone without taking a flight or having a few days away in 20 years!

I seriously doubt the AFL GF would end up being hosted in Sydney, they wouldnt sell enough tickets to make it profitable, better hosted in a state that doesnt already have 3 more popular footy codes. I think Perth has the biggest stadium - let it go there. Melbourne Cup this year will be intersting as it is going to have to be run with local horses only, as I cant see international horses, trainers and jockeys being allowed to fly in.

It would be funny if Vic did compalin about other states stealing their sporting events, as they have form taking the Grand Prix from Adelaide.

The Sydney outbreak has now resulted in an entire ADF base closing and a Federal MP is now isolating too.

As fears over a Sydney pub outbreak grow, an entire airforce base in NSW has been put into lockdown.

At least nine of NSW's new virus cases have been linked to the Crossroads Hotel in Casula and it is understood 13 defence force members visited while infected people were there.

Now their RAAF base at Wagga Wagga is in lockdown.

Over 1000 people have been asked to isolate regardless of presenting symptoms. Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt confirms the source has still not been located in either the pub or gym outbreaks.

I read your two links and could not find the reference to a comment today about the source not yet being found or anything by Federal Health Minister.....

They said on the radio this morning that the offer to host the Cup in SYD has already been declined.

On interstate truck drivers. From what I know of them in the pandemic they frequent dining rooms/truckstops dedicated to truck drivers.

The base isn’t in lockdown, only 12 people who went to the hotel are self isolating.[/QUOTE]

I did see something on maybe news.com.au in that blog thing where Hunt said they were close to identifying the source.

Ok. Thanks

Federal Health Minister last night saying to SkyNews words to the effect, we are close to the source

NSW CHO Kerry Chant saying today on 2GB words to the effect, we are looking at a number of (Melbourne) linkages and doing diagnostic testing.

.....according to news.com.au blog.

ADF personnel in self-isolation after visit to Casula pub
We reported before 7am that the Australian Defence Force's Wagga Wagga base was in lockdown after a group of personnel attended a Sydney pub linked to a growing number of coronavirus cases.
We now have a correction: the Department of Defence has said the base is not in lockdown, but the personnel who attended the Crossroads Hotel on their way to a deployment at the Albury-Wodonga border are in self-isolation at the base awaiting their test results.
The rest of the Sydney contingent have also been directed to self-isolate upon arriving at the Wagga base.

'Very likely' Queenslanders visited Sydney COVID-19 hotspot as state confirms new case
An urgent public health alert has been issued in Queensland after a Sydney hotel popular with travellers has been identified as the source of a COVID-19 outbreak in NSW.
Queensland Health has said that any Queenslanders who visited the Crossroads Hotel in the south-western Sydney suburb of Casula from July 3 to July 10 inclusive should isolate and get tested immediately.
