The saddest and most distressing part of this, excluding my feelings of genuine sadness and distress for those living in Sydney is that if NSW is unable to quash this without a lockdown, then it will become the absolute default response for a long period of time. Plus all the inevitable grandstanding that would make anyone want to hurl...

I am barracking for NSW here, but things are not looking good.

Oh I don't know, I thought the reporters from the same organisation as Rachel who were demanding to know why Gladys was not locking down were having a good go.

Yeh it doesn’t matter what a government does will be attacked. Lockdown … drama . Don’t lockdown …. drama

I do think the Victorian government are interrogated much more though than any other, but it’s their own fault, simply because they let their pressers go on for so damn long. Most other state and federal governments simply terminate their pressers by saying thank you for coming and exiting stage left after a certain period of time (particularly the federal government. Victoria keeps on asking if there are any more questions. Any wonder they get all sorts of inane questions!

Queensland records three locally acquired COVID-19 cases linked to flight attendant

A 62-year-old man, who was at a restaurant at the same time as a woman who was unknowingly infectious on Saturday, tested positive late last night. The two other cases were travelling with the woman when she was out and about in Brisbane on Saturday.

You do not have to go to the Stay-at- home setting immediately. You do it if you reach a certain threshold has been reached when they will believe whether or not that they are not keeping in front of the transmission chains depending on the circumstances, including now the type of variant at play. NSW are still deciding if they have reached that level or not. As of yesterday it was still not, and they may not.

In Vic recently waited till the Kappa Outbreak had some momentum being bring back the Stay-at-home controls, remembering too that Case 5 had been symptomatic and out and about spreading for 12 days to help fuel the cases. So say 5 generations or so head start.

The degree that one turns the dial on non-pharmaceutical intervention's deployed in part depends on how quickly the virus is spreading and also how quickly it is first found.

Luck plays a part too as it also depends on just how many of the 20% of people who tend to be the main spreaders get out and about. ie The traveller to NZ may be one of the 20%, or one of the 80%. If the former given the venues that he visited then New Zealand will have probably have an outbreak, if he is part of the 80% they may not have any significant number of cases.

He was vaccinated with AZ at the same time as Gladys was. However I don’t think vaccination currently exempts you from testing and isolation if you are a close contact.

Well I did say last week we needed outbreaks in multiple states to get vaccination going. Didn’t mean to ill wish NSW though…

Well let's hope that no one with a vaccination gets infected then, there would be little more endorsement than that. Should hurry people along.

Of course those of us that read the world's media know that this is entirely possible, but one thing that has been reinforced to me throughout the pandemic is how little international media your average Australia actually consumes. Let's hope for sliver linings!
