Australia to Reduce Incoming Int. Passenger Capacity from July 2021

Someone just posted this on FB and I have no idea if it's genuine. My daughter, her partner and grand-daughter have J tickets on AA for 11th August. They sold their house and most belongings and are currently living in an Airbnb. Their 2 dogs & cat are supposed to flying out at the same time (not sure if on the same aircraft). I'm extremely worried now. Has anyone else heard anything or can verify if the attached is genuine?

It has been widely reported that many flights are being converted to cargo only flights, so it is certainly plausible.

One-third of all flights into Sydney have been given zero passenger allocations

How is his flight going - is he still scheduled to arrive in August?
He hasn’t had any contact from airline and it‘s still showing in his bookings. He’s currently on holidays in Croatia so plans to follow up next week when he’s home or if they call him. 🤞🤞🤞

Oh I do hope he gets lucky. Singapore was very bad with Dr FM and only cancelled flights a few days before they flew. Hopefully they have improved.

But based on this I will remind him to contact them as soon as possible. We’ve told him that bank of mum and dad will pay for J upgrade if it helps to get him here.

The National cabinet is supposed to be discussing home quarantine today. If they could just get on with it, it might really help returnees.
Just can't see the states who don't even want hotel quarantine ever allowing it.

Probably right but it’s just annoying - fully vaccinated people are low risk and not the ones causing issues in hotel quarantine. In Canberra diplomats and public servants have been allowed to home quarantine (even unvaccinated) and it hasn’t caused any issues. Like none. It’s a year since we have had a community case and they came from Melbourne.

A friend sent me this re Sydney lockdown. Unfortunately I have come across many, many people “self isolating” who think a quick nip down the pub is acceptable. I imagine enforcement will be horrific which perhaps goes some way to explain the reluctance. I’d be reluctant. A3BCE03C-2F17-46AA-9362-8BD90065FAEA.jpeg

People really should be reporting these people to police and not on social media. You can lodge a crime stoppers report online anonymously, if you are worried about repercussion.

Stay patient. With 1 million Pfizer a week from July 19 we may yet have everyone who wants the vaccine fully vaccinated by Christmas.
With the efficiency that we’ve seen so far, I’d expect the spoilage rate to be about 950,000 per week…

Has anyone written to their various Federal MPs & Senators and directly asked them why Australia has not copied the successful NZ queue system that has no stranded Kiwis anywhere for over a year?

Our local Fed member (ALP) replied, after a few weeks undertaking to find out. Nothing from the Senator covering our region yet.

If enough people blanket the Federal MPs, given there is an election coming within a year, then things may well change for the better.

So they are going ahead with a trial of home quarantine for vaccinated people. South Australia will be hosting it but all states will have “visibility”. Hope it’s successful and some others implement it. Inbound travellers will be asked to document whether they are vaccinated in future.

It’s a quote from the SMH and has been circulating for around 2 weeks. Thus I can deduce that the relevant authorities are aware and presumably don’t care

not exactly criminal mastermind, admitting to it in a major newspaper, either

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The pilot home quarantine trial will focus on individuals who have been vaccinated in Australia that are returning from low risk countries. So it won't directly help most of those stranded overseas who presumably weren't vaccinated in Australia at this point.

It will take the load off hotel quarantine. Would envisage two caps - one for people who can go into home quarantine and one for hotel quarantine. So it would make it more viable for airlines as they could bring bigger numbers back. Could be a logistics nightmare for them though.

Agree - I would be proactively managing this... if they cancel the flight any seats on later flights or alternative routes/airlines might be snapped up very quickly.

Don’t want to be negative here, but Singapore Air were less than useless in December/January. Dr FM phoned them multiple times and they refused to give her any information. Two weeks before her flight they were still saying it was too early to know. Because she had a J ticket that was cancellable with a $600 penalty the day before, she ended up buying a ticket with Qatar and was back in Adelaide in hotel quarantine when Singapore finally cancelled two days before. Hopefully Seat0B’s son will have a better experience and I think phoning and checking is a good thing to do, but they are not necessarily that helpful.

Going OT, but I'm a bit puzzled by the comment about "likely cancel their Gold Coast school holiday trip", is this an old comment? By now there are no holidays on the GC for anyone who's been in Sydney.

Yep. And the response was "Our government will consider models such as New Zealand’s as we look to re-open. However it must be stressed that Australia’s population is over five times larger than New Zealand’s, making the practical implications of operating such a program in Australia harder."

He also said "With respect to Australians living abroad, Australian citizens overseas are entitled to return to Australia provided they complete two weeks of hotel quarantine. However, they are still required to apply for an exemption in order to leave the country.". I corrected his incorrect statement.
