Creating a thread for this simply because given the current doom and gloom of the economic and travel environments, Qantas has just dropped some of the best domestic fares I've seen in some time and valid across most of the current schedule (at least out of Sydney).

One-way fares:
OOL - $99
MCY - $109
MEL, BNE, HBA - $129
CNS - $169
ADL - $179
DRW, PER - $309

I use SYD-MEL/BNE as my main benchmarks as I fly these routes frequently at my own expense, and both are $10 cheaper than the last big sales QF has done. It's been a few years since I paid less than $139 to either one-way. During the most recent DSC, the best advance purchase fare to each was $189.

It could be coincidence, but the timing and relatively lower-than-usual sale prices makes me suspect it could be a good opportunity to generate positive PR ("look how good QF's sales are even during this volatile time") and/or locking in some future revenue if they sense clouds on the horizon. Likely both.

Better yet:

SYD - OOL/BNE/CFS (or vice versa) in J is $299
SYD - MEL (or vice versa) in J is $329
Amazing deal! And cheaper than VA (yesterday pricing J SYD-MEL at $387, but i guess they’ll bring that down lower than QF pretty soon).

The advantage of VA over QF in J is a full cash refund. QF seems to be to credit.

Not worried as I don't plan on cancelling, but if for some reason I have to I wont have any issue spending a credit before it expires.

QF dom J fares are fully refundable, including the CC surcharge which VA doesn’t refund ;).

VA can certainly match though QF's timing is good as it will mean VA has to undercut some if its own published sales fares they just launched and that are still currently running.

I snagged SYD-CFS over Christmas for $109 each way which is wild. Rex hasn't matched yet either. I haven't paid that little in... as long as I can remember.
