An average cost of A$39.45 per 100km travelled means for the SYD - MEL route (just above 700 air kilometres) the typical one way fare is A$280.

Were they doing a simple average of economy and business class fares, even though well above 85 per cent of travellers may be in economy class?

$280 one way doesn't seem realistic. I'd like to know the survey's methodology. I am suspicious of some of these online corporate surveys: what was the sample size, was it uniform for each country, what assumptions did they make, what class of ticket was surveyed (there's a huge price difference between say a class T discount economy ticket and full fare Y) and so on.

And Webber thinks JetConnect still operates in NZ..

And thinks NZs shorter flights contribute to lower costs

It could be that alot of business travel is booked within the week of travel. I know my travel to syd melb return costs around $450-600 in whY when I book only two or three days before and the thought of a 6am flight down and 8pm flight back for $160 each way is just too much to deal with.
