Auckland and Queenstown which Hotel ?

Hi Members,
I am traveling to NZ in September, working on where we should stay in Auckland and Queenstown.
5* preferably.

your advise and experiences are appreciated.

We love the Sofitel in Auckland. It is a modern building at Viaduct Harbour, it is surrounded by water and has a really calm feel. You can walk along the water to restaurants and it is less than 10 mins walk into the city.

The Langham is ok but up on the hill and older than the Sofitel.

We haven't been to Queenstown, sorry!

The Sofitel in Queenstown looked good and was located centrally, but the Hilton was my pick.

Quiet location outside of town set on the shores of the lake, beautiful hotel and as a HH Gold the upgrade was to a suite overlooking the lake. Breakfast in the main restaurant there was excellent too.

I've got a 2 night stay in Queenstown also in September and I have gone for the Crowne Plaza. It's virtually right in town and a walk to anywhere. I have stayed at the Sofitel in Auckland a number of times and it's very nice, if you want something else to consider, Emirates put me up at the Skycity Grand 1 night and that was also very good

Hilton in Queenstown is too far out of town for my liking. The CP is central and as parking in town can be a real problem, an excellent option.
We stayed there recently and found it to be fine. We ate out and didn't even have the hotel breakfast. So can't comment on the food offering.
Try the degustation lunch at Amisfield winery ( if you have a car)

My thoughts as well. The Hilton is almost more of a resort that happens to be nearish to Queenstown. But, if you want to go to Queenstown itself, you'll want a closer hotel such as the Crowne Plaza or the Novotel or something in a similar area. I stayed at the Novotel and it was ok, decent enough hotel that did the job, typical Novotel.
