If it all goes well, they'll be asking for "volunteers" to sign up and go through biometric gates instead of customs officers (sound familar? )

Would help speed up arrival into Akl airport at those dragging on busy times.

Lately I havent had any delays at immigration at all. Some flights are less peak times has helped, but also helped by the confusion due to the new layout (first part of pier segregation has completed but remainder still under construction.
