Howdy Doody, folks.
I've just had a phone call from "Qantas" (it wasn't), offering to sell me Qantas Platinum membership for life - and that I could pay by cash or cryptocurrency(!).
I think we can all guess where they got my mobile number, frequent flyer number, and name from.
Phone didn't flag the number as a potential fraud or scam, so guessing it's fresh out of the gate.

So they specifically mentioned your FF Number?

I ask this because that would be a key indicator. Otherwise, it may just be your run of the mill scammer being opportunistic on the news about the Qantas breach.

Confirm: specifically my Frequent Flyer number read aloud to me.

No number given. Whether this is the old 1831 dodge or something else, I'm not sure.

I guess we also need to consider other places where we have provided our FF number. Eg Expert Flyer. Other flight search sites. Other airlines. But it is concerning.

Anywhere that earns points - Woolworths Everyday rewards, BP etc. Also consider email being read from either an ISP or any relay on the way.

If someone can read you email, name, FF number, status and old points balances are on those emails QFF sends out all the time.

Status doesn't appear to have been quoted nor points balance.

This is correct - wasn't fed either of those on the call.

Can't be Woolies. I'm too much of a cheapskate to go there instead of Coles...
Your point is bang on though - could potentially be a broad range of sources.

To be honest, I wouldn't expect that any sophisticated scammer that had access to status information would try and sell "lifetime platinum" to someone who was currently P1.

The point I was trying to make is that FF number is in a wide number of places, but status (correlated to FF number) is not just in QFF - as it appears in emails. If you only want to look at status not associated with FF number - lots of us have publicly revealed status (which may or may not be accurate) here on AFF.

$1500.

Clearly whoever it was hadn't done their research very well. Or maybe they had. Sounds a bargain, I suppose.
$1500 for LTP?

shut up and take my money GIF

I will just chime in and say I have written to on of the mods to change my name. Although QF apparently did not leak my details and it was all protected I am finding posts on sites from me which I did not author. I am still tracking CC activity.
It probably had nothing to do with the Qantas hack. Today I was notified of one of my email addresses and password have appeared on the dark web. I only use the password on AFF, Cruise critic from which I am suspended at present and Flyertalk where I last posted a year ago. One of them has been hacked.

What was the originating country of the call, unless it was a private number or spoofed domestic mobile number or the like?

Any accent on the person who called?

Thanks for the scoop to be careful. Also going to acquire an airhorn just in case.
