Many have done the maths. But in the end it depends on how YOU value he points. Search for the hundred page thread that already exists for more detailed discussion.

Isn't Amex 1.5%?

Also I'm pretty sure an Amex issue Amex will earn you stuff all points. I thought they'd cut all the earning for government payments. :?:

Amex Ultimate earns 1.5 points per dollar at a cost of 1.45% so the gross fee is just under 1 cent per point. You may be able to tax deduct that fee but that would be advice you would get from a tax agent/ tax accountant.

Arent payments to the ATO considered as cash advances and therefore no points recievable

Arent payments to the ATO considered as cash advances and therefore no points recievable

Not with the various credit cards I've used to pay my debts. However it is possible some might have a rule to treat as a cash advance.

For business payements (tax deductable) I think its worth using my 1.5 points Amex (but only just), for personal would use CitiBusiness Visa or the EDR card. PS My Amex point go to SQ, I think if going to QF it would probably not be worth if for me as I value SQ over QF.
