Hi all,

for upcoming travel, i'm trying to determine best way of accessing local currency on arrival.

Does anyone know if the following airports have an ATM or similar located within the "sterile" area - i'd prefer to withdraw cash directly rather than continually changing currencies everywhere (mostly due to cost of multiple exchanges but also so i dont have to carry currency around).
SIN
HKG
AUH

SIn and HKG especially as we'll be on the train from airport to hotel and it'll be evening in SIN.

Also but less important as i'll have some cash at hand until i can get to an atm are:
LHR T5
STR
JFK (on QF not sure which terminal)

"Within the sterile Area" ... why?

I could answer about ATM's in SIN and HKG, but the one's I have used/know of are not "in the sterile area".

For SIN T1 there's a couple to the right at the far north of the arrivals hall.

At HKG there are several ATMs near the arrivals hall exits on the way to the Train station.

Thanks serfty.

To clarify: Prefer to have money withdrawal etc done in a more secure area when arriving into a city I dont know etc. Plus allows you to head straight to train / taxi / car etc without being followed/hassled by taxi drivers/ other touts.

I'm happy to take "non-sterile" ATM suggestions too. Beggars cant be choosers!

... no experience with AUH.

I feel rather more safe in HKG and SIN airports that I do in MEL.

(BKK is another story - taxi/limo touts often shadow you while using ATM's)

You won't have any such problems at HKG. When you exit through customs you will find a block of 3 ATMs along the wall between the customs exit points. There are two customs exit points depending on your baggage carousel number. If using the lower number carousels you will turn left after immigration to the carousel and then turn right after customs to look for the ATMs. If using the higher numbered carousels then you will go right after immigration to get to the carousels and turn left after customs to find the ATMs.

have a look at the interactive map and look for HSBC Express Banking on Level 5 or China Construction Bank on level 5.

I use these ATMs every time I arrive in HKG and have never been harassed or accosted by touts.

If you can't find it, there are signs overhead and just wander along the wall of shops and you will find it. You can also ask the very helpful tourist information people waiting to assist just before you exit customs. They are most helpful.

There are also currency exchange booths right at the customs exits, but they don't have ATMs, just over-the-counter exchanges.
