Going by that animation it looks like if the pilot didn't pull up, they might have had a fairly safe landing...

I think they would have hit the water and nosed into the sea wall.

I think your right upon further viewing. I think the shadow vision of the plane's usual trajectory played tricks on my vision. Looks like he was trying to abort but the tail hit the sea wall...
Amazing the plane held so well together.

That's my non pilot take also, and I assume why they tried to pull up

the nose up might have been part of the application of take off thrust being applied also

This could well be so, as a go around was discussed. If this was the case the decision was too late, but we will have to wait for the investigation to be completed and then review the facts

One for the PR hacks on the forum. Would you consider that Asiana is better to keep mum on this until a better time?

Honestly I don't know understand what grounds they have to sue over? Seems quite reactionary but maybe the word of a lawsuit was a tactical play to warn other media outlets not to go after Asiana?

Does this mean the crash only claimed 2, and the City of San Fran took the other? I can see a big lawsuit for that.

That's an interesting point about how many lives were actually lost due to the crash.

As for the lawsuit, that would totally stink. Provided some extraordinary circumstance wasn't in play (like the firetruck driver being intoxicated or he/she failing to follow advice that there's a body on the runway etc.), then to my mind it's clearly an accident. I certainly wouldn't want to be in a crash where the firetruck keep to 60 kph on the off-chance it might come across a passenger on the runway, rather than one or two hundred at a burning plane.

Sad that one of the Chinese girls who died was killed by a fire truck hitting her.

I hope the driver will be charged and tried by a jury. It's inexcusable.
