Article: No Qantas International Lounge Access for Oneworld Business Class

FJ, so this won't have a QF flight number.

I booked my upcomming fiji trip in J via QF (prices were identical to FJ, as QF own about 40% of FJ), but to make doubly sure Im flying out on QF metal and home on FJ metal (with QF Flight #) so should guarantee lounge access at both ends no matter which lounge is open.

So presumably this explains why I was unable to attach my electronic Qantas lounge vouchers to use on my economy flight out of Sydney in December. I asked Qantas to extend their validity and they gave me another 3 months but if they don't open the business lounge soon ............................
Correct, no lounge passes valid for the F lounge.

You were wise to book QF codes ex-SYD (returning ex-NAN is usually less problematic). I’d personally still go for the QF codeshare A350 over a QF 737!

Technically, FJ as only a OW “Connect“ member is a whole world of hurt for QF status PAX and lounge access. Outside of Covid, booked in J on an FJ code would get J lounge access, but not 1st for QF WP/OWE. Book in whY and FJ code - nada...

Yeah unfortunately all the super cheap J fares on the day I wanted to fly were on QF or FJ 737s (the QF flight was actually $50 cheaper than FJ), I did originally have the A350 on the way back, but panicked about the early morning departure so moved to later flight which is a 737. So many extra things to consider when travelling in covid times.

My experience in SYD last month was of a Lounge with First Décor and J catering.

Tell me about it.

The food was actually pretty good but everything else was extremely disappointing. Mostly the service.

They refused to make me an espresso martini. I asked four different people, they all said "we don't do them". They had an espresso machine, vodka and Kahlua, they can do them. (In fact before I was WP I made a couple myself in the Intl. J lounge, it's not hard)

They offered me "Champagne", I even clarified that it was Champagne to which they said yes, but I saw when they poured it that it was Australian.

AA wasn't any better with most of their Flagship lounges still closed.

Must have been missing the coffee bean (sometimes chocolate coated) which goes on top ;)

One would hope they are putting coffee beans into the espresso machine and aren't buying pre-ground coffee!

Now that the international border is opening up on 21st February I expect QF will re-open the International J Lounges and all will be back to BAU.

OW J to the J lounges
OWE and F to the Flounges

Hopefully they will soon allow complementary passes to be used again.

and Espresso Martinis back on the 1st menu! They were my go to morning coffee when flying in the morning 🤣

Just flew Qatar Business last night as a platinum (OW Emerald) and there was no Qantas Lounge access available. I should have access to QF First lounge at MEL but it was closed as was the business lounge, even though there was an emirates flight with a QF flight number departing at the same time. Had access to the Mahaba lounge which was sub par (especially when I was looking forward to the QF First)

I've just checked the Qantas website - International Business Lounge [T1] is no longer indicated as closed:

Can anyone confirm it's up and running - and the experience

I'm particularly interest in confirming access on partner (BA) flights?

Can confirm lounge is open. I just got in using an EK J ticket as well. EK is still using the Marhaba lounge in MEL not their own lounge, but QF let me in saying that EK preferred pax used Marhaba but I could still get into QF J

Similar experience yesterday from SYD, flying BA, the Qantas T1 Business lounge front desk suggested I would have been given a pass to The House - maybe in an effort to get me to go there instead..

I told the BA staff at check in I would use the Qantas lounge, so they kept the pass for The House... in hindsight I should have taken the opportunity to explore there as well.

It’s up to the OW airlines flying out of Australia to sort out what lounge access…..
I beg to differ. The OW Airlines did have an arrangement that QF unilaterally altered by closing the relevant lounge. So I’d argue it’s up to them to substitute a suitable alternative.
