Article: Guide to Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold Status

Is this the manage booking screen, or choosing a seat prior to booking? I say this because I have an AA flight coming up, booked in Basic Economy, and preferred seating is free for me as a SG with my QF number attached, although Main Cabin Extra seems to be a lot more expensive than your example. See the below screenshot:

Not really sure what's going on there.

The domestic fast track is available at BNE, SYD and MEL, but is only open in peak hours. It's in the article as "fast track security lanes."

The cost for MCE will depend on the length of the flight. I don't think there's a difference in price between status levels (it's either free or you pay the full public price).

I'm being quoted $29 for LAS-LAX, and $65 for LAX-HNL.

Once you reach Gold, your QC membership is frozen. It will resume if at any point you are downgraded from Gold.

If in the event you reach Lifetime Gold, you can apply for a refund (as you'll never be able to use the remainder).

I would ignore any extensions you received for Qantas Club whilst Gold - find out how much was left the day you achieved Gold, and that is how much time you have in the bank.
Thanks for that helpful information. Good to know. I’m a QC member and on the cusp of Gold status.

Yeah I agree re. MCE being priced the same, although if LAX - HNL is $65 then the $70 for a ORD-LGA flight is even worse. Must be due to the basic economy fare.

Great article Matt on QF Gold.

When I was WP years ago I received my two QF e tags, after over 10 years of use one has fallen apart and the other is getting close to EoL. As I’m LTG do they send new etags or do you have to order them?

I should also point out that it is a misnomer that one needs to travel within/from/to Australia 4 times to earn Qantas status. The terms say 4 times on a QF or JetStar Group marketed flight. So that could mean a domestic flight in NZ or Japan (where JetStar and JetStar Japan operates). It could mean flying JetStar Asia between cities in Asia. Or as others have pointed out it could mean somehow getting on a QF codeshare. I bring this up as sometimes it is easier to earn status credits outside of Australia (US domestic flights come to mind such as the infamous San Francisco to Los Angeles via Dallas Fort Worth American routing that nets 200 status credits in business each way).

But importantly it also has to be an eligible flight, ie one with a squiggle ~. JQ flights without some sort of bundle to earn points and SCs won’t be eligible.

QF codes on US domestic flights are only going to happen in conjunction with an international ticket. But a return connection at LAX/DFW/SFO onto a QF code with do the trick for the four flights.

You should be able to request a new Q-Bag Tag up to once per year by calling the Qantas Frequent Flyer Service Centre. Not sure if this applies also if you have lifetime status, but if it's been 10 years since you last got a new one then I think it should be possible.

Update: called American Airlines to get frequent flyer number added (I tried adding it on the AA website but it wouldn't accept it for some reason, and yes I tried Royal Jordanian, FinnAir and the other usual suspects, but they wouldn't accept my PNR - likely due to it being a complex booking made by Corporate TA). I heard the agent whisper my frequent flyer number to herself several times which suggested to me that she updated the frequent flyer fields for all bookings in the reservations.

Sure enough after this was entered in I was able to select my preferred seat online (AA charges for seat selection over the phone if ticket was booked with TA):

One interesting artefact of having the FF number manually inputted in by AA was now I could select seats normally on QF (before I had to call it in as all I was offered was the option to select window vs aisle):
