Article: Fly Qatar Airways Qsuites from Adelaide to Auckland

I was thinking of booking an economy ticket and using the QCredits from the status match to upgrade. Strangely, you need 3 times the Qcredits for AKL-ADL compared to AKL-DOH :D

Have I missed something?
IT pricing as AKL-(BNE/ADL)-DOH-ADL?
As above IT may not have caught up with new route being sold (ADL-AKL) --> DK

Yea, it seems like AKL-ADL is not recognised yet as a valid 1 way sector. I am not sure call center would have the ability to manually apply for this.

And no one gave me kudos for mentioning it, my post even got moved to the QR FF branch!
There will be naysayers, but this QR flight ADL - AKL does open up opportunities to bypass SYD/MEL/BNE dom - int terminal transfers.
Not sure how long this QR flight will be, and its a pity its not an A350.
Would I use it, probably yes.
Finish work on Mon evening, if they are flying that day to AKL, then off to AKL, AKL - NRT with AirNZ, and back again.
Granted, its different airlines doing the odyssey.
Bliss.

The days they fly ADL - AKL is only on Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays.
Coming back is the next day, so the plane probably layovers in AKL overnight.
Not too bad, $2000 for a return flight, to go to the snow with a dom flight with AirNZ AKL - ZQN, or AKL - NRT.
Need to look at this so long as they don't change the schedule, but lots of possibilities with this.

What dates did you see them on, I looked via the AA and QF website and found nothing.
I was looking at Aug/Sept last night and plenty of dates with 4xJ seats available. Interestingly tonight I can’t find anything except Y on ADL-AKL but found J on AKL-ADL

Cheers, I was looking at the QF and AA websites both of which do not show the QR award seats. I can see them on Cathay Asia miles instead.

On a side note is it just me or are the prices stupidly high to the point that they don't want people to just fly across the tasman?

I'm ignoring the ADL-AKL due to overnight nature and the AKL-ADL in Y is AU$461 on all days ($1124 in J). Meanwhile QF with a stop in MEL or BNE is $290 (or ~$700 in J) add to this QR don't have a lounge in AKL and probably won't for a while unless they sign a deal with Air NZ.

All depends on how happy you are with transferring from dom - int or vv on the east coast.
MEL is not that bad, as its (the terminals are all linked, and) walkable if you have 3.5 hours.
SYD would be ok, if they (QF) bring back the transfer bus from int to dom, but as mentioned on other thread, this is not coming back.
BNE is a pain, as in SYD if your transit time is very limited.
Unless you are happy to transit overnight on the last flight from AKL to SYD/BNE.
I do hope QR will keep this ADL - AKL trip an ongoing process though, granted others might not agree.

Sydney would be great if they made the train between the two terminals free.

I wonder how the DOH-BNE-AKL and now DOH-ADL-AKL routes differ in regards to DOH-AU traffic rights.

Qatar airways is limited in the number of flights they can operate to "major" cities (PER, MEL, SYD, BNE) but there is no limit on flights to other places like CBR or ADL.

It makes me wonder did the route DOH-BNE-AKL count towards the traffic rights or did it not similar to the DOH-SYD-CBR service? If the later it then begs the question perhaps when the DOH-AKL direct resumes we could see a different trans tasman route pop up (or AKL get two services) given how easily it appears QR was able to get trans tasman traffic rights.

I had no idea SA still had crazy rules like this:

Vaccinated International arrivals must:
"Undertake a COVID-19 PCR test within 24 hours of arrival in SA and quarantine until test is taken"

I think vaccinated ones still have to as well. For what it's worth, everyone I know in my circle who has flown internationally has tested positive shortly after arrival. Even with the negative test 72 hours prior.

Complete honour system and not not enforced
Will they change the rules when the border changes (no PCR) come into play or do you think they'll try make us do the test before we travel? I'll be doing an arrival PCR test anyway as we will have very pregnant family member to visit.

As for QFF points accrual, the QFF points and status earn calculator on this routing on the QF website, ADL - AKL/vv still shows it is available under the JQ flight number only, ie the full 2500 QFF points and 85SC, but of course, when JQ flew it, they didn't use their wide bodied planes, so no J cabin.
And QR on this route, does not carry a QF flight number operated by QR, its purely a QR914/QR915.
Wonder if QF is going to add QR under their flight miles calculator on their (QF) website.
Ie, are we going to earn the full 2500 QFF points and 85SC on this route, or a lower one under partner points earn.
Until one colleague on here has flown the route, and seen what QF will issue, as to QFF points and QF SC, guess we will never know.
I don't think I will be able to fly for a while yet.
Edit: for Pushka, I think that booth that was the WJ Smith newsagency is still there, but as to what it is now used as now, don't know, but if the facility is still there, and still used by SA Health, that might be the place to do the PCR test for free.
Mmmm, looks like that WJ Smith one has gone, has been taken over by Aust Clinical Labs ($$$) with the drive through option only available.

It seems like the upgrade calculator has been fixed up a little bit, but not too much. Still cheaper to upgrade ADL-DOH than ADL-AKL, but atleast it is not 3x.

Has anyone checked out the earn calculator on Qatar's website?
Surely, this is too good to be true and assumes one to fly from ADL to DOH and back to AKL?

But if it is, this means you just need 1 flight in Business to renew gold? And whats more, you can use the Avios earned to book another flight :D
