Are you a yay or nay to Avios subscriptions

I took out a cheapie subscription for GBP 55 pm, just to get enough Avios to book a flight LGW-MLA that was $900 for a cash fare. Mission accomplished (got the last seat), and I'll probably cancel after 3 months, although I can see the value for intra-Europe flights.

I used to have the Avios subscription. I was paying monthly, but my rate was grandfathered. And I cancelled it after I got enough points for CDG-SYD in Qsuites for two people.

Just completed that trip in August and it was probably the best flight of my life. Kind of kicking myself that I cancelled the subscription because I'd really like to have more Avios to do more Q-suites. lol

Obviously the price has gone up and I'm not sure I want to pay for the whole year in advance. Do people still think it's worth it to go on the highest plan but on a monthly basis? Is this still a good or reasonably good value for buying Avios? Any feedback appreciated from the Avios pros.

That's a shame you cancelled, but no point dwelling on something that can't be undone I suppose.

That said, even at the full price, it's not terrible value - but only when paying annually, imo. The largest package for refernce:
  • GBP 199/m for 16,667 Avios = 1.19p/Avios
  • GBP 1,989/y for 200,000 Avios = 0.9945p/Avios
I always use GBP for Avios, but 1p/Avios is around what I'd value them at as a base - it's possible to obtain heaps more value, but also less. I wouldn't pay 1.19p/Avios, personally, so the monthly sub is out. This is based on my current position though, I have enough Avios/access to Avios via other means, and it still beats purchasing them one-off.

Yes, I agree. I put cancelling down to being a bit of a newbie at the time.

Thank you so much for this information. That's exactly what I wanted to understand. So, the monthly package isn't really worth it.

I think I'll just save up the funds and buy the annual subscription in the next couple of months. Thanks again!

You're not the only one @goldenhorn who's got remorse about cancelling a grandfathered rate sub. After successfully obtaining an AMEX at the end of last year (after having previously being knocked back) I made the mistake of cancelling mine in April, confident that my spend with AMEX would be sufficient to keep my Avios topped up for at least a few years. Then they did the rug pull of increasing MR redemptions for Avios from 2:1 to 3:1. To have had the benefit of foresight... 😫

Well done finding SYD-DOH availability in a premium cabin (F no less).

Love the DOH F lounge. The DOH in-flight F product vs Qsuite IS worth the extra 20-30k points in my view, but not the double in $.

Is it still worth getting avios with the new rates?

Are avios fares easy to find for australian domestic/international travel at all?

How could I have missed this, oops!

That's true, probably worth only top-up promotions with Avios across the IAG fleets. Best bang for buck Avios redemption from what I heard was rewards flight saver, and the middle option of cash mixed fares. Perhaps a little more points earned or cashback depending on which payment method or credit card used that ties into bonuses for airlines spent.

Can I get a refund for my Avios Subscription?

You can request a refund for your subscription within 14 days of your original transaction date, if the Avios haven’t been used. To request a refund, log in to your account and go to your 'My Subscription' and click the 'I'd like a refund' button. Once you have confirmed your choice, we will refund you within 14 days.

Has anyone been successful in initiating a refund ?? I can't seem to find the refund option when I follow their instruction.
