Are there any towns/cities that are really worth visiting in your country or just around it? Where would you recommend living if one wanted to see?

Welcome along Mike. There is certainly to see & do. I think there are quite a few trip reports (see Trip Reports) now on domestic things. I have done a few reports No Cassowary Sightings for Us and From the Clare Valley to the Yorke Peninsular- a 2 week motorhome meander of things we have done this year and there are others linked in my signature

Welcome Mike.
to answer it really does depend on what you are looking for. Adventure, nature, wildlife hiking, nightlife, bars, food etc.
But having appointed myself as the honorary Queensland Ambassador to Tasmania I do suggest thinking about a visit to the Island state.I am currently working in tassies second largest city but it's population is just over 100000. It has most things.good nature trails, world class mountain biking near by,fishing and pretty good food.Launceston has just been named as a centre for gastronomy.. If you are lucky also nearby are good spots for seeing the Southern lights -Aurora.

There’s New Zealand and only a 2.5 hour flight from Oz. Has plenty to offer.

Check out Canberra - it is in a central location that provides access to the countryside, near the coast and what we call mountains. And yes, people make fun of the place as it's the equivalent of Washington DC, but being smaller we don't have the traffic issues and manic pace of other places.

Just ignore those Eastern Islanders, they really don't have that much to offer :)
