Are there any disadvantages if you use your Skywards number on EK flights if booked with QF points

As the title suggests I am wondering if there is any disadvantages of using my Skywards number on an EK flight booked with QF points. I have not really thought about this as in the past the flights that were code shares I used my QFF number to get the points and rewards flights I just didn't bother as I was not going to be earning points/ miles with either program so just left my QFF number in the EK PNR. I have bookings next year EK F and read somewhere that I can get free wi-fi if flying using my Skywards number NB (Nuthin Blue) based on cabin class.

There is no real disadvantage, other than that you won't have access to QF status benefits/recognition. As you are flying F anyway, this may not be important to you.

You won't earn any points/SCs for the flights either way if booked on points and on EK flight numbers.

If you’re flying EK F then the FF program is irrelevant since you don’t earn any points. WiFi is free for F travellers AFAIK.

What does is this normally get you, if anything. I was aware that that I will not get SC or points I was only going to add my Skywards for the free WiFi. It is my understanding that I should get into the MEL F lounge based on the QF/EK agreement and class of travel. Normally on EK flights I use my QF number in the booking and was not sure if it was status that allowed the access. I have not thought about it until now.

@Matt_01

On reflection overnight, I seem to remember that to access EK free wifi, it doesn't depend on your seat or ticket or FF number that's on the ticket. One just has to enter your Skywards number into the screen to access it. But it been two years ago now since we've flown anywhere so it may have changed although I doubt it.

Looks like it's still the same:

Quick one about the free wifi for Skywards members. The EK website page above says:

To use the free Wi‑Fi services, you must add your Emirates Skywards membership number to your booking at least 24 hours before your flight. Add it on the Emirates App or through Manage your booking online.

This would seem different to what people have said up thread. So can you access for free by logging in to your Skywards on the screen or must the Skywards number be in the booking? If the latter, assume there won’t be any issues adding a Skywards number to my F booking made using QFF points?

I'm 99.9% sure my husband just typed his Skywards number once onboard. That's what I was planning on doing for my upcoming flight.

Just to share my experience - I flew EK metal F (QF booking) last week. Tried to log in with my Skywards number to get the free Wifi and received the following message:

"Please connect as 'Non-Skywards' as your Skyward number is not entered for your flight today."

So it didn't work for me.

Had you changed in the EK MMB from your QF number to skywards number prior to the flight, this is what I understand you have to do to get free wi-fi

No I didn't, as I wanted the QF status credits. So I wasn't expecting it to work, I was just providing my experience given there were previous posts suggesting otherwise.

Thanks for your response, I get were you are coming from as I have taken many EK flights on a QF flight number for the status credits and limited points. My up coming flight is EK rewards booked with QF points so I am aware that I will not earn SCs or points, I was just interested to know if changing to my Skywards no. if I would get free wi-fi.

In your circumstance, yes I expect you would get the free Wifi if you add your Skywards number. Good luck!

I’ll add my comments now. I had the same experience as guppy. I had however booked using QF points. I had tried updating my booking to add my EK number instead of WF but it wouldn’t let me.

I ended up paying for wifi on one leg.

Exactly my experience 2 weeks ago.
Was not possible to change to my skywards number as it was a QFF redemption booking. Then was unable to log into the internet onboard using my skywards number either.

Just came to say the same thing... Can't change the number on the website as it comes up with an error so I'm guessing I'll have no luck on the plane tomorrow!

Maybe I can leverage the business class factor to see if the attendants can assist :)

I should have added an update earlier but had forgotten about this thread. Some time in late June I called EK as I could not change from my QF number to my EK number. The agent did it for me and I had free wi-fi on both of my flights, it was actually quite fast and the only time it was problematic was somewhere over the north pole which I can understand. The other advantage of having my EK number in the booking was the call wait time was significantly less than my QF number. I can only assume that the EK IVR/systems recognised I was an F PAX.

Reads like I need to make the edit over the phone, correct? F Flight booked with QF Points. More concerned I was going to have my flight deleted on me.

I had to call EK to get the number changed. I was not concerned about EK deleting my flight and if you did have to make any changes these would still need to to be done through QF.
