Are our points worthless now?

The good old AA vs QF debate.

How would someone go qualifying Executive Platinum on a mix of E, O, N class domestic airfares they are paying for out of their own pocket?

Horses for courses....

If you are talking short haul dom, segments would be your best bet.. only for N and O class only for flights flown on or after 1 August, 2013:
American Airlines oneworld partner

Because this is a QFF thread, I won't add any more except that 100 segments on domestic QF in discount Y will get you to AA EXP (if you have your required AA flights) but not even halfway to QFF WP (I'm defining halfway to be 1050 SCs).

Do EXPs still get barred from Admirals Clubs? If so - great reason not to join AAdvantage IMO (obviously not an issue if you don't travel to the US much).

Points are as valuable as they were before QF came up with the crazy idea that you could earn points/SC on ASA's a couple years ago, in fact, they're probably still worth slightly more than before that time as it's still possible to book those sorts of fares, they've just removed web functionality because we were using those fares too much ;)

Hmm. While I agree that there's a potential upside to the changes (i.e. same supply but reduced demand due to less people knowing the fares exist) the part that worried me was the bit where they said the marginal seats were under review.

It sounds like they're softening the blow for when they're pulled in the near future.

Good luck to anyone able to spend a morning or two on the phone ringing for ASA's each time you want a flight.
I thought ASA's were a clever marketing tool to instill loyalty from high value customers whilst still filling seats for significantly more points than normal reward points.
I am fortunate enough to generate more than enough points to meet my family's traveling needs and always fly J+. I happily waste points to ensure the family of four can always fly together on the dates we desire.
I used to channel all my points to QF (long family ties with company) until they did the forced points transfer on cards I used at which time I opted out apart from EDR's to keep the account open. Having then started to shop around, in the five years or so since, the total QF redemptions have totaled less than half the points generated in one year or around 10% of total redemptions with my QF points still in 7 figures. Accordingly, over the past 12 months to August, flights have been with VA (multiple), DL, CX, SQ, EY and one QF leg.
I found myself getting hooked on the status wagon due largely to AFF and my two daughters reaching silver and gold with VA largely by accident. I was aiming to get to QF gold booking JASA's to Singapore and Adelaide in the coming months and planning Europe for mid 2014. In both instances, these bookings were at significant cost over rewards with either SQ or VA with Adelaide JASA costing 80,189 points (60,000 QF rewards) to 42,400 with VA rewards.
Thank you QF for healing me of the status madness I was developing and will resume booking flights with the airline providing best value, which unfortunately is rarely QF.

Do EXPs still get barred from Admirals Clubs?

Yes. AA elites (PLT/EXP) do not have access if flying on a domestic itinerary (I think the definition includes the US, Canada, Caribbean and Mexico?)
If travelling internationally they have access.

I think the access for pax on non-stop US transcontinental flights is only for COS - J and F pax.
ie an AA EXP or PLT travelling transcon in Y will not get access.

Admirals Club and Flagship Lounge Transcon Access

Well said Dave. I was hooked onto the status bandwagon. I remember taking a fully flexible just so I would get enough SC's to tick over to gold last year. Now already WP, once I soft land back to wherever that will be it cos I will only take redi deals or the cheapest Y or J fares whether its VA or QF.

Obviously the bean counters didn't factor in how much extra business QF make from people chasing status.

I feel cleansed too. Thankyou QF

NAB trading cleansed me of using their systems when they completely wiped our SMSF trading history when they changed the structure of our account so I know exactly how you feel Daveb.

I doubt you will be Robinson Crusoe

I am a bit confused. What recourse do we have? I was so excited when I got my double SC offer last week but now the BNE-KTA run has quadrupled in the number of points that I need. Are members saying that we can potentially ring and see if we can get a better deal for the JASA?

The points aren't worthless. I do suspect however the cost of what they buy may be more expensive.

Provided OneWorld Explorers are still 140/280k, I'm happy. That's pretty much all I've ever spent my points on. :)

Exactly my thoughts. These and long haul upgrades are the only thing I've used my points on in the last few years. As long as they don't change (or heavan forbid become better value) then everything is as per normal for me.
