I can pay a largish bill, that will net me 25,000 points but cost an extra $362.5 in credit card surcharges.

Hmmm...can't decide if this is money well spent or not. In my mind it seems like roughly even.

I'm sure someone here can point out why this is a really good or bad idea.

Go! :)

Thanks

David

Short answer.

If you use your points efficiently the answer is yes. If not then no.

It's not cheap but it is 40% of the points needed for a SYD-HKG JASA, for example.
You'd also have to pay about the same again in cash.
Worthwhile perhaps if you have a definite use for the points but not just for the sake of having them in stock.

If anybody paid me AU$362.50 for 25,000 of my Qantas points, I would accept in an instant. It is roughly equal value depending on specific flights, but then cash is always a safer bet for currency than ff miles. Regardless of what they do, RBA has a better credibility in my view than Qantas! :)

I would say it is definitely worth it but only if you have something specific in mind for the points.

25K points is 42% of the nett points cost of some oneway transpacific JASAs for a WP.

Thanks everyone for the input.

I think my conclusion is this. Seems to be decent enough value IF I have some near future use for either a OS upgrade or JASA. Given they will likely just go to Bank of Qantas for the medium term at least, I think having the money is a better option.

To put it in another perspective it's equal to 140SC ;) or close to 25% SG requal.

Nope not for me, getting the credit cards is a much cheaper way of getting them... Or different offers that come up, like the insurance offer of a year or two ago when many people got around 40,000 for a bit over $100...
