Apparent occupied seats - a true indication of plane fullness?

I intend returning from BKK to SYD on 28 or 29 Sept.

The cheapest carrier is currently Scoot (flight TZ301).
The fare has jumped considerably over the past fortnight, and now approaches AU$400.

On the BKK-SIN leg, all standard economy seats seem available (none appears occupied).
On the SIN-SYD leg only 43 standard economy seats on TZ301 seem occupied, leaving about 260 vacant seats.

Noting: the large number of apparently available seats on both legs, and that 28-29 Sept are within a school holiday period, should I book now, or wait in the expectation of a seat sale closer to 28 Sept?

Any additional comment or suggestions to assist my decision-making would be welcome.

Thanks in advance
Bush

Apparently empty seats tell you nothing about how many seats have been sold. All you know with scoot is that no one seems interested in pay for seat selection on the first flight and 40 odd people have paid for it on the second flight. The price has got to be a much more useful indicator of demand.

Thanks Medhead

You might be on-the-money. A number of discount and full-service airlines have also lifted their prices recently (including QF and Jet* but no surprise there). And no classic award seat has been available for the past month.
I guess I should book soon or get stuck in Bangkok...which would be terrible.

Cheers

Looking at a seat map particularly as far out as 8 weeks away is no indication of how many people are booked on that flight as Medhead has said above.

It only indicates how many people booked have actually pre-allocated their seats. This may only be one third of the flight so the remaining two thirds of the flight will either get their seat allocation at checkin or OLCI 24 hours prior.

Plenty of people mistake a 'empty' seat map for what they perceive to be a load factor on the flight & move themselves into a middle seat assuming they'll have a whole row to stretch out across when in fact they end up piggy in the middle with a seat mate either side with the flight going out full.

It's probably always a good idea to assume that your flight will be full & allocate your seat accordingly.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Totally agree with everyone's comments. My daughter flew Scoot Sin-SYD yesterday and there was literally a handful of seats allocated on the seat map, and at SGD228 including taxes return I reasonably assumed the flight was wide open. In fact it was very full....so I would grab your seat now!
