We are planning a trip to France in May next year. Our thoughts are self contained apartments/cottages for about a week in the wine areas of Beaune and Bordeaux and a week or two in other rural areas.
Has anyone had experience in booking this type of accommodation and can recommend a booking agency ?

With the help of AFF I have bought enough AA points for the both of us to travel to CDG in J/F...not booked yet but will probably be CX

I typically recommend airbnb but there's a heap of similar booking agencies.

We did two of these trips in 2010 and 2010 and rented an apartment from France in Australia - French Property, Travel, Food, they sell properties but also rent them out all over the country where the owners are mainly Aussies so they have Q.S beds and some English TV programs. It is a great way to experience France and a town with at least a couple of restaurants and bars is the minimum size we reckon, the larger the town the more it costs though they were quite reasonable.

We also leased a car both years and on the first trip they upgraded us to a 7 seater, way to big for the small roads and car parks and on the last one we had a small Renault wagon which was perfect, G.P.S is a must as well.

Thanks, looks terrific. Love France.

My daughter and I stayed at Moulin d'en Bas at Escanecrabe about an hour out of Toulouse. Easy access from the airport, we just used a local rental car. Be careful with leased cars as they have special number plates and on occasions are targeted for break ins etc. Highly recommend the mill, Nikki and family are very welcoming. Just google the name including the village and it will come up.
