Hey, hive mind

We currently have a rental car from Budget, and didn't take any extra insurance, relying instead on the ANZ Platinum Rewards Travel Adventures excess cover.

So we've had a puncture and the tyre isn't repairable.

Any thoughts on how to manage this - return the car and accept whatever Budget charges then claim it from the credit card insurance? Or should I pay for a new tyre ($259) and try to claim THAT from the credit card insurance? Will the credit card insurance cover it at all - I honestly don't understand the wording about tyres.

In the meantime, I am driving without a spare. At least the spare was full size, not spacesaver (and there was one).

Unsurprisingly the tyre that punctured doesn't have much tread, (nor does the other front tyre), so Budget gets a free tyre they would have had to replace soon anyway!

I phoned Budget but was told to call roadside assistance. But I don't need roadside assistance...

Checking the ANZ Platinum insurance PDS it requires you to call them before incuring the expenses. It also states it may not cover things like tyres under specific cases.

They state clearly that the coverage is for accidents, damage or stolen vehicle while in your custody.

This forum isn't the place to ask, so if I were you I'd be calling them first to discuss whether the repair/replacement of the tyre is covered and if it is what your options are.

Thanks.

I have since found out (by visiting the office we collected it from) that Budget will charge $250. MyCar wanted $259.

I can't ask for permission before incurring this expense, as I'll be charged when I return the car. I will have to survive without a spare until then. (Given many cars don't come with a spare, we're very grateful it had a full size spare and on the same alloy wheels as they are other four.)

I found the PDS to be very unclear, hence asking for other people's knowledge or experiences.
