Thanks op for posting this.
Have taken advantage of it. Applied last wednesday night. Received and activated the cards friday.
Inbranch I.D verification was a headache and time consuming due to ANZ staff having to call up to
activate the Amex part of the card.
Went and spent $35 on a few groceries at safeway afterwards for the 1 spend for the bonus points.

Now with the welcome pack it sais the annual fee is $49.
Im a totally new ANZ customer. Existing QFF member though.

Will i be charged this $49 despite the confusing (to myself) T & C's?

Lastly if they come up with another offer is the general rule you can
apply only once every six months?
Or 6 month period from when you cancel say a ANZ classic awards to re-apply for another ANZ classic awards?

In about Nov/Dec last year i applied for the ANZ QFF Visa/Amex card and got the 16k points... about 2-3 months later I asked them to upgrade it to the Platinum Visa/Amex card, paid the $295 annual fee and got another lot of 20k points (or 16k) i think and got the original $95 joining fee paid back for the first set of cards...

So not sure about any waiting period to get another lot of points or having to close one card and wait before opening another...

I think the AMEx of this card also gives you 1 bonus point per dollar spent with Qantas, not a bad deal during the free annual fee period.

Thanks to the OP.

Applied and approved.

Will use the Amex but will cut up the Visa as soon as it comes as I still have a 1:1 Visa with citibank. .25:1 what a joke!!

Hope the 16k points post quickly :)

Des anyone know if both cards need to be used or is it sufficient to spend the minimum on one card etc to get the 16,000 points >> ???????

Looks like they've kept the bonus points where they are at 16K, but put the annual fee back in at $90 ($40+$55) and the usual ANZ earn rate (1 point per $1 on AMEX and 0.5 points per $ on Visa)

ANZ Frequent Flyer

So it's a $35 min spend for the points to be credited? I couldn't find it on the T&C

Hi All - sorry I am a bit new to this but I am wondering whether opening the card and closing it again quickly has any effect on your credit rating?

Eg. a few people seem to have applied for the card, received the 16k points, made the minimum spend and then cancelled again - are there any adverse effects from this strategy?

Thanks in advance!

In terms of applying for credit cards, several posters on this forums have had no real issue getting new credit cards after cancelling their existing ones.

However if there are heaps of hits on your credit history, they might question you the next time you apply for loans or any other forms of credit.

What's the rationale for giving you both an Amex and a Visa on the one account on the same statement? Do ANZ get commission from Amex/Visa for doing so or something?

has anyone received the 16K points yet??

I jumped on this card last time around, had to pay for it though :( but has a 1:2 visa which is better than this offer being 1:4 I guess...

Points posted in the second statement for me...

In Feb this year I received 20K bonus pts for a card from ANZ - cancelled it - applied for another - in Sep received 32K bonus pts for combined Amex / Visa - intend to cancel just prior to XMAS after expiration of 3mths. I have no idea if the 3 mths makes much diff but some cards won't post pts for 3 mths and maybe holding for 3 mths doesn't make the churn look quite so obvious - or does it?

Can anyone confirm if I will get this 1st year annual fee free and bonus 1600 points is says new applicants only and I had an anz qantas frequent flyer card in 2004 but cancelled in 2006.

Thanks

PS looked at the sign up conditions and is says:-

Qantas Frequent Flyer Bonus Points offer applies only once per new ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold or new ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum account.

I applied on a Friday and got the "we'll contact you in 5 business days time" message. Then the next day, Saturday, I get an email saying I was declined and a letter would be posted with details. I received the in about 5 business days and it contained absolutely no information as to why the card was declined. Anyway, rang up ANZ and asked what was going on, why was I declined. They checked over my details and approved me over the phone. I just don't understand sometimes. Oh well, hopefully the card and bonus points is on the way to me. For those who do get declined, might be just worthwhile rinigng and seeing why you were declined, they might decide to accept you after all :)
