Booked flights through Expedia USM-KUL Malaysia air flying on Bangkok air metal, I would like to select seats but the Malaysia air record locator doesnt work on their site nor on Bangkok air site. 20min on hold to Malaysia air resulted in all my sim credit burned.

Not a big deal but if anyone has any tips it would be appreciated.

Are you sure it is a MH booking number? It should be 5 characters long. Bangkok Airways use Sabre. Since you used a TA you should probably try to organise seating through Expedia first, but honestly if you're on a codeshare and booked through a OTA you're probably SOL.

Yeah it's definately MH 5 characters.
I entered the 6 digit Expedia record locator in CheckMyTrip and all the details are there.

i thought there may be a trick to generate the Bangkok Airways record locator from the MH one but I guess not.
anyway thanks for the help.

I tried to do something similar last week for my parents. I was able to select seats on the MH website, but for the Bangkok Airways sectors, I was unable to select seats or check in. I called Bangkok Airways and the lady I spoke to said I was unable to check-in online as it was a MH ticket. I didn't bother to HUACA.

Thought as much, will be interesting to see if I can credit miles to my QF or AA accounts

Have you tried to the flyMAS.mobi site? It often pulls up otherwise unresponsive bookings although unsure if you can select seats on it, I may have once or maybe mobile check-in IIRC. It sounds like a traditional case of codeshares though: limited options, no benefits and generally a PITA. At least it is a short one.
