Anyone been through Malpensa lately?

Heading to Milan shortly and will be flying into Malpensa (MXP).

As some will be aware, Milan’s other major airport (Linate) is currently out of action for maintenance. This has meant a much greater number of passengers and flights hitting Malpensa during the closure.

Looking for some comments from those who have flown into MXP since the Linate closure. Has it been chaotic? Long immigration lines etc?

Immigration queue in late June was appalling - longest I've experienced anywhere in the world. A joke

In Mar, before the closure of the other airport, my +1 had a 2 hour transit through Mxp and nearly missed her connecting flight....she said it was a sh.thole of an airport!

Can only speak for before Linate closure. Flew in on QR127 on a Tuesday at 13.10pm on 14 May this year and had no problem whatsoever.

I liked the smaller size Malpensa airport and the ease of getting the Malpensa Express train into Milan main station or CBD hotel.

Husband flew out in 16 June MXP to DOH and had no issues either.

Bit of an update. Landed in Malpensa at 8am yesterday on a pretty full 777.

Immigration queue was non existent. Mind you they still made you walk back and forth through the entire cattle run.

But happily, no queue whatsoever.

Icing on the cake was that our luggage was literally the first to appear on the belt.

Airside to landside in under 15 mins!

As I write this, I’m sitting in the lounge at Malpensa.

Having read through some of the tales here, and elsewhere, I was a tad concerned about how long it all might take, so we were at the Singair checkin as soon as it opened, 3 hours prior to departure.

I’d have to say that it was one of the easiest airports to pass through that I’ve seen recently, and it puts Melbourne and Sydney to shame. Whilst we were able to use the priority line for security, they had all of their many gates open, and the queue was only a couple of minutes in any of the lines. Rather pleasingly, the staff were stopping people putting stuff onto the x-ray machines any time it got busy on the far side. Basically they gave you time to collect your gear.

We walked straight to the front of the “other passports” line. Their machine accepted mine and I just had to get a stamp on the far side. My wife’s didn’t scan, so it took her at least a minute to cleared through.

This was all at about 10 am. Overall very easy experience.

On the negative side, we were supposed to go to the tax refund area, but the queue was huge, so we gave that up as a bad joke.

Flew into MXP on 20/9 and out on 4/10.

Arriving into MXP around 6am was quick and easy. Food outlets open landside even at that time but if you need a toilet, they were few and far between.

Airport WiFi ok but slow.

On departure, Checking in (SQ) was very quick and easy. If you are wanting a VAT tax refund on departure then allow lots of time as the queues for these (both landside and airside) were extremely long and slow moving.
Getting through immigration did take a whole - very long queues for security and passport control but once through, a decent variety of food and retail outlets.

We had been told to allow extra time to get there but found it no busier than usual and so, like the previous poster, arrived quite early.
