Ciao Friends!

Have a flight coming up, MEL-LAX-JFK. The MEL-LAX is in T (PE) with QF, the LAX-JFK is a QF codeshare operated by AA on their A321T. I have a Y (flex economy) on the LAX-JFK leg.

I have no elite status directly with AA, though I can get access to AA miles through purchasing.

Is there any way to get an upgrade on the LAX-JFK leg? I haven't tried the AA transcon service yet, which I've heard is top notch. Since it's not QF metal, no hope with upgrade using QFF points. Since it's not booked through AA, no hope of using AA miles (though a regular AA ticket can be upgraded using 5,000 miles with no copay because it's a flex ticket).

Can the brains trust think of anything? I could probably call AA and see what I can do but would love to see experiences before committing to anything.

Cheers!

No, as you point out I don’t believe there’s any way to upgrade the leg as it’s booked as a codeshare.

Only hope is an Op-Up which are extremely rare on AA. You should be able to pay extra for a Main Cabin Extra Seat (which is free for ow elites) that will give you extra legroom and free alcohol.
