Hi all, I have the opportunity to relocate to the UK for 12-14months... Taking the 3 kids 10,12 & 14 & Mrs Mac..... Have to organize it all myself.... Any tips for me?
House rentals, car purchase, visas, school relocation ...... Rather a daunting task, so any help or ides would be fantastic.... thanks, Mal:shock:

Are you paying with with your hard earned $ or the company paying ??
Where to in the UK ?

Luckily the company is paying..., oxfordshire area is around the new office ...
Mrs Macs main concern was "can we take the dog?" but it looks like it is fairly easy for puppy...

When we were moved there from Germany (now back in Australia), we used

rightmove.co.uk

to look at the choice of places to rent. Presumably your company will pay the real estate agent. As I recall, the fee was way less than a month's rent.

With your dog, you will be moving rabies-free to rabies free, but I suspect you will need blood work done and then have to wait (in our case 6 months). As we drove with our dog, I am unsure about transport costs to the UK from here but when we brought our dog back to Australia from the UK it was about $2000 including auirfare and vet's fees. Qantas does not count the dog as part of your weight allowance on international flights. Additionally, Qantas insisted we use an agent . They were great but it was all stuff we could have done oursleves. We did all of the paperwork ourselves which reduced the fee enormously. The agency you'll need permission from in the UK to import the dog is DEFRA. And you will probably need AQIS permission here to export the dog.

Good luck

The question should be "can we bring the dog back..?"

When it comes to currency conversion just forget that the currencies are not one for one.
If you spend pounds like they are Aussie dollars you will be able to maintain your Australian lifestyle.
A medical friend gave me that tip and it does really work.

Yes, the figures I quoted were for bringing our dog from the UK to Aus. Just contact DEFRA and AQIS about 4-6 months ahead of times and have a good vet who will stay on top of the paperwork.

The state ( public) school system in the UK is based on catchment areas.
Rentals and sales in the areas of the best ones are v.popular and often marketed as being in " catchment for Hogwarts etc" .
Good Luck :)
