Any there any other alternatives to one-way flight pricing?

I want to book PER -> SIN and HKG -> PER in January. I used up all my FF points for similar flights in October and I don’t fly at night. The one-way pricing structure seems to be a killer.

Option One
One option is PER -> KUL -> SIN on Airasia for $622 in Premium class and HKG -> KUL -> PER (overnight in KUL) on Malaysian Airlines for $564 in Economy. A total of $1184 plus one night at KUL airport. 4 flights and no FF points.
Option Two
Another option is QF return PER -> SIN for $1302 and HKG -> SIN on 3K for $116. (But these 3K flights do not seem to be available on 25/1 and 26/1.) A total of $1418 plus one night at CP Changi. 3 flights and FF points accrued.
Option Three
The most expensive option I have found and the one which would suit us best is PER -> SIN on QF for $816 and HKG -> PER on CX for $1082. A total of $1898 with no overnight stop. Only 2 flights and FF points accrued.

Any obvious problems with any of my plans? Any better suggestions?

Play around with the multi-city booking.

My search yielded a $1313 fare with QF from PER to SIN, and then HKG to PER (via SYD and ADL on the way home, it seems).

I'm getting a $1404 red e-deal with direct flights each way on the QF website (multicity booking) with dates of 16th and 26th January, although obviously YMMV depending on dates... Stupid school holidays!:p

You can actually do Jetstar/Tiger PER-SIN, and then Jetstar HKG-PER (via SIN). The total cost depending on dates could be <$600, but it will involve a night flight, and the money saved will seemingly be paid by torture.

Qantas have a SIN/HKG combo fare from memory that will not appear online, might be worth checking with TA?

Thanks to everyone for your replies. The options suggested have been interesting, but most seem to involve overnight flights.

I have tried flying overnight twice in recent years. On the first of these occasions, I ended up being taken by ambulance to People’s Hospital No. 4 in Pudong. The second occasion was flying between Johannesburg and Perth. It was not quite so dramatic, but still very traumatic for my husband and daughter.

Thus the restricted options available to me for booking.

I recently travelled to Europe and back, taking 4 days in each direction; with one night in Singapore and two nights in Dubai. All day time flights.

Can anyone think of any other options which involve direct routing and no overnight flights?

Singapore offer flights that would fit your criteria (assuming evening but not overnight flights are ok)

e.g.

Mon Jan 16 - SQ226 PER-SIN 3:55pm - 9:10pm

Mon Jan 23 - SQ863 HKG-SIN 1:30pm - 17:20pm then SQ215 SIN-PER 7:45pm-12:50am

Not sure about school holidays periods but these dates price out at $1150 on SQ website.

Thanks, yohi?! I can see those flights on the SIA website and that price looks very acceptable. My dates are PER -> SIN about the 2/1 and HKG -> PER about 26/1. These dates come out at over A$1600. That is just too much. I also worry about the return from SIN -> PER at 00:50 if the flight is delayed.

I just had a look at the Perth Airport website on the departures screen for today to gauge what airlines flew where so it seems you might have a few options. There must be a good fare on one of these carriers either nonstop to SIN or via KUL/DPS/BWN or BKK,
then get a cheap sector fare SIN/HKG before returning HKG/xx_/PER on one of the above carriers.

The flights below are either all morning or early afternoon departures which should suit your needs.

D7 PER/KUL
GA PER/DPS
TG PER/BKK
JQ PER/SIN
QF PER/SIN
DJ PER/DPS
BI PER/BWN
QZ PER/DPS

Perth Airport : Flight Search (departures)

The flights below arrive PER early afternoon so again should depart from Asia in the daylight hours thereby giving you plenty of options.

Generally those dates are always busy for pax travelling for Chinese New Year, not to mention school & uni holidays so if you get a good deal it might be worth considering buying it now, unless any of the carriers allow you to book now & pay later however the airfare wouldn't be guaranteed until paid & there will no doubt be price increases between now & then particularly fuel surcharges etc.
