Any real tangible benefits to linking two people's PNR on the same flight?

Hey all, wanted to ask if anyone has actually has experience in benefiting from linking two seperate people's PNR on the same flight?

Me and my partner booked the same flight on two different PNRs as I booked later. I was able to get Qantas link them together, but does it actually do anything?

I'm hoping it means she can be on the same boarding group.

I'm guessing there's no benefit for upgrade requests? I have something similar with my wife where we're on separate PNRs. We want to request an F upgrade (I'm WP, she's SG), but only want if both can get processed together.

Upgrades will be processed separately.
I’m travelling QF up front while my son is down the back end on QF9 soon. Separate PNR as I booked him after myself.
As I have care needs, vision impaired, I called the help line. Son is now looking like he’s linked as he also has the wheelchair/assistance symbol showing.
I’ve requested classic points upgrade for him from economy to business at 130,800 QFFpoints if successful. The help desk guy suggested requesting both ways so if he misses out on way over it’ll automatically request for the return trip.
Trouble is I’ll be about 50k points short🤣 so look out family and friends when I come looking for points transfers.
Hoping business isn’t full on QF9 16/2/26😎👨🏼‍🦯➡️
I think perhaps as he’s in a care support role and separate cabin he might be lucky.

As others have said, it's all about same boarding group
But I thought if you check in together you will be in same boarding group?

For example, I am travelling with my parents on CX548, and me and my parents are in Group 1 despite different PNRs and travel class.

We do it when travelling with Seat Friend as she does not want to be left anywhere on her own in case of flight problems. By linking, we re kept as a group for rescheduled flights. Luckily we are all WP at the moment, so boarding group and sea5 allocation benefits aren’t needed.

If you are travelling in business, or have the same status, you will.

If you’re talking about physically checking in at the airport then I have no idea, as I haven’t done that with Qantas domestically or internationally for a long time.

I always check in at the assistance counter. Qantas are very good and ask each time what assistance I’d like. If anyone is travelling with me their bags are checked in along with mine,if anyone is travelling. Otherwise we go to gate together, with assistance, and board in same group regardless of mixed tickets, economy and business.
