May have some work coming up in Toowoomba. Yes, I realise it is possible to take a coach service for a relatively cheap fare from Brisbane transit centre, but I couldn't help noticing that Macair have a Saab service to Oakey with connecting cabs.

Has anyone tried this? Any useful tips/interesting experiences to bear in mind?

The timetable doesn't look too appealing, but I guess you avoid peak hour...

CC160 BNE-OKY 0745-0815
CC157 OKY-TWB 0835-0915

Would be interesting to see if you can really earn/redeem QFF points on these flights.

Hmm 40 minutes to go 30 kms in a SF340 from Oakey - methinks thats a ground leg http://www.macair.com.au/cmsAssets/images/gardencityyellowcabs.pdf , as for the 30 min flight BNE-OKY, it would take that long to get out of the airport at that time of the day if you were driving

If your travelling from brisbane, depending on where fromI reckon you could drive to Toowoomba quicker, especially in the morning.

but that's not the point i guess.

Thanks, all.

Maybe I should qualify - Macair don't have landing rights at Toowoomba Airport so they go to Oakey. The deal is that you fly the Saab 340 from Brisbane to Oakey and then cab the hop from Oakey to Toowoomba - they give the cab hop a flight number.

If I was trying to get back to CNS, say, I could take the OKY-BNE flight 1635-1715 putting me into the Qantas terminal in good time for the evening BNE-CNS at 1940.

The alternative would be a 1hr 45 to 2 hr coach ride to the transit centre, followed by the 20 minute ride on the Airtrain to the airport.

I don't much enjoy coach travel and can't stand the idea of sitting in traffic between Indooroopilly and Roma St in the afternoon rush.

The morning flight to Oakey from BNE is less attractive since it is not possible to connect with this from an incoming fight from CNS. If overnighting in BNE anyway it would seem best to stay in walking distance of the transit centre and hop on an express coach.

That all said, sometimes it is fun just to do these things! And yes, you are supposed to accrue QF FF pts, although I am not sure if the minimum 1,000 applies with Macair.

I am curious to find out if anyone has done the trip, because I am interested in whether the Macair OKY-BNE service is reliable/punctual and whether the cab ride Oakey-Toowoomba is as simple and quick as it is supposed to be. Cheers!

(I have travelled Macair before ISA-TSV on the 340 and quite enjoyed the flight).

Personally, I'd do the afternoon flight, in that case,

However, the coach should be going against the afternoon rush, not with it. Also, I might have expected the coach to use the western freeway and milton road, which might be better then going through indooroopilly.

Have you been anywhere near Indooroopilly or Milton this week in the afternoon, there is no "with traffic" scenario since the changes to the right turn off the ICB, its a dogs breakfast on either road despite the traffic volumes generally being down due to the Holiday.

I hate the drive to Toowoomba when the trafic is normal, something about the trip just sucks!

Sorry, I forgot the caveat that it has been a few years since I've driven that bit of BNE. So ICB  Interconnecting Bypass?

Despite my lack of recent knowledge, I would still expect that generally milton road would be moving mostly to the west from about park road out. Turning right off the ICB onto either Coro Dr or milton road, should mainly impact on west bound traffic. sounds interesting, BCC always have innovative ways to stuff up the traffic.

As for the toowoomba drive, yes I do find it best to do that at night when you can't see anything ;)

ICB = Inner City Bypass (or the one bit of infrastructure that was built during the tenure of the previous Premier, who was always crowing about the influx of the mexicans but never did much to make sure we had the infrastrucutre to water them and get them to work).

The catchup work taking place all over the city with new holes and bridges is causing issues, especially in the inner west/milton area:

Ah yes, the ICB. more like the RBH bypass. It might be worth checking the route of the express bus, as Indooroopilly can be completed avoided using the western freeway.

I know what you mean about the holes everywhere, got to experience the "boggo road" tunnel construction first hand on my last few visits.
