Guys + Gals,

I am heading to Darwin on Thursday and having never been there, looking for a quick suggestion for a nice resort <$250/night, just so I can chill out for three days.

Preferably within a 90 minute drive of the City if possible.

What I would like? I like to just relax and do nothing, so it must have a nice pool; a private pool would be fabulously awesome. I'm keen if its near/on a beach but if its in the middle of nowhere, then at least it has to have some scenery.

I will have a car, so could do day drives (if I am not lazy) but otherwise, any other suggestions is great.

Thanks plenty,

Alan

I once got to Jabiru in about 90 minutes. ;) But the speed limits have changed, read they have a speed limit on all roads, now.

Litchfield is pretty good. I'm not sure about the quality of resorts in that area.

Don't laugh but the Darwin Accommodation NT, Rydges Darwin Airport Resort, Accommodation Darwin, Northern Territory, Holiday Accommodation Darwin Australia is actually quite nice. The Executive bungalows are lovely inside and the pool is fantastic. Its also within your budget. It wasn't a Rydges when I stayed there but I was reasonably impressed and used my hire car to get around.

I would agree with that, although you are limited in food choices obviously, if you dont need to be in the CBD its a good choice and towards the end of the week is in the price bracket.

Keep in mind sub $250 is rare during dry season, and most if not all car rentals are capped at 100 free km a day.

Yep I know, $250 is a big ask, but I thought I'd cap it at that for the time being. Even the HI at Jabiru is asking $300/night which is OMG prices. I am thinking about my those 5* hotels in Venice and Rome I have stayed at that ask for less money than that. Will have a friend who has their own car, so not too worried about driving around.

Thanks for pre-warning not too laugh ;) Looks very nice but ........ :)

Is there anything coastal? like a coastal town of some sort where I might see the water?

Not really anything Coastal out of Darwin - mainly because you cannot swim in it, unless you want to go to Groote Eylandt.

As for the Holiday Inn, if you have 5000 PC points you can stay there, its only 15K per night and there is availability for days after Thursday, means its costing you $90 per night!

Many thanks to the replies and I did look through them all. Lake Bennett might see me next time though.

Thanks markis10 for pointing out the 5K points and cash option as this looks extremely good value. I usually dont stay at PC properties but I logged into my PC base account and saw 4K sitting there ;) so I purchased 6K for $81usd and now need to wait for them to clear (does anyone know how fast they take to post into the account?) so then I can book the P&C rates. Hence, the total cost should come to around $81 + $70 + $70 = $221 for two nights. Much better value than the cash rates of $590 for two nights.

You only needed to purchase 1K, then do some bookings way out using the points + cash and cancel, getting all the points back in lieu of the cash payment, an easy way to build up PC points which is why I always keep 5K in the account. The purchased points should post in sub 48 hours.

Yep I read that too! Too bad I wasn't thinking as I thought $221 for two nights was a bargain and just bought the points ;)

Now I know the book and cancel trick to expedite points accumulation ;) I might do it once the points arrive, so I have a spare 5K sitting there for next time.

I live in Darwin - we go to Lake Bennett for a break - its great - relaxing, on the water and no mobile reception - there are some crocs in the lake but only freshies.

Don't stay at the resort though, there are plenty of privately owned places on the water that are available to hire.

try these:

Darwin Accommodation - Lake Bennett Holiday Accommodation Northern Territory

Lake Bennett Holiday Accommodation Home

Bungalow 25 Lake Bennett - Totaltravel

Hi can you hire boats on lake bennett?

Im heading up next week
