Had a bit of a trawl through the other forums and the merger web site and can't see too many benefits for QFF pax in the merger (not that that would have been a focus for them :) ).

A few more locations in USA (esp smaller east coast locations) and some more in Europe for 1W; Phoenix becomes a hub, possibly able to service western US a bit better once you are in the US. Nothing new in Asia or Sth America for possible 'Circle Pacific' routing.

Connections through to western Canada (my main interest) still horrible. Still no flights on merged airline from SFO or LAX into western Canada. Hence the twice daily E190s of Air Canada remains the direct choice between Los Angeles and Calgary. Extraordinary! Can you imagine Melbourne - Auckland being serviced only by a couple of daily Air NZ E190s?

Anyone see anything really useful from this merger when we head across the pond? I'd be happy to hear it.

I agree with you that there's still a lot of west Canada untouched! But I was pleased to see that east Canada will be better served. I was particularly happy about Halifax.

Although not for QFF but Westjet fly from LAX and several other CA cities to Calgary.I know the LAX-YYC has an AA codeshare so should be able to interline baggage. They use 737s.

In the long run possibly more competition for awards given they are adding members and not routes...
