Twice now I’ve tried to register without success complimentary Hertz 5 Star upgrade from the standard Gold Star Rewards. About a year or so ago, I noticed that my NAB Signature VISA card had a 5* offer and discount codes that could be used. I loaded them up and heard nothing. The offer mentioned about 2 wks processing.

Similarly, I signed up for IHG Ambassador in October and it also had a Hertz 5* promo which I fired off. It’s showing in IHG as “Requested”. 2 mths later - crickets.

Anyone else had similar challenges..?

I did us the VA WP President Circle comp upgrade years ago. I’m wondering if the hertz system is a once only thing? Although, I have a feeling that I had to open a new Hertz account since then…

Bump. Any thoughts?

My IHG Spire Elite to Hertz 5 Star Gold upgrade went through within about a week of requesting it, some years ago, and it has stuck to this day. I’ve not noticed any difference in rentals though! Perhaps a hybrid instead of a standard, here and there?

Still waiting on a recent application to upgrade to Hertz president’s club from VFF WP. It’s been ~15 business days since I applied, so have another week to wait for my whinge!

Cheers,
Matt.

My IHG One Rewards upgrade went through successfully, took less than a week. Not yet used it however

I did that several years ago (VA WP -> Hertz) and it went through Ok. But weird that two attempts for 5* went no where.

Slightly ot, about 6 years ago I got wind of Hertz running a free Presidents Circle promotion, for LH Senator members.
Had to enter the specified LH CDP against your Hertz a/c and save it as your default.
I wasn't even an LH FF member, let alone status holder.
But, the Presidents Circle came through, and holds to this day.
Unfortunately, whenever I rent (USA pretty much exclusively) the rates are much cheaper when I am not logged in to my a/c, so never actually rent as Pres Circle anyway!

This gets mentioned quite often although I’ve not had the issue myself with Hertz, AVIS or Europcar.

It‘s worthwhile going into your profile on the website and check default settings (especially insurance) and discounts / CDPs.

Yeah, I meticulously check all options when making a reservation.
Best options (for Hertz) invariably tend to be through one of the UK/Euro sites, so .co.uk, .fr, .es, .it etc....can be massive savings, and full insurances included. Type of car discounted varies between sites as well.
But always more expensive when logged in, on any site, for me

Then the other question: have you noticed any real difference in the service you get or vehicles allocated as a 5* member (or higher)?

I can recall two differences it's made to me, both times at the Gold Rewards level. On the rare occasion I hire overseas, being able to choose the car you like from a collection of few dozen at SFO was really nice.
Domestically (in NSW), I usually rent from my local outlet. One day I rocked up there with my phone only (containing the digital DL) and they wouldn't accept the digital license, even when I had hired from them multiple times in the preceding months. I was already on my way back home to get the plastic DL when the agent came calling me. He had checked my profile, seen my status and told that because of that he's OK to accept the digital license. True or not, it made the morning easier and I got on my way, as planned.

My Hertz President's Circle upgrade just came through after a VA follow up on Monday. Next use likely to be July in NZ

Cheers,
Matt.
