Does anyone know anything more than the last announcement about JAL joining Oneworld early 2007?

I'm thinking of going to Europe via Japan and am vaguely considering JetStar StarClass to Japan and then JAL to Paris, in May 2007, but I'd only consider going on JAL if they have joined Oneworld by then (and sorted out their safety issues that have been reported quite widely).

Last I heard was that they were going to join late in Quarter 1, 2007, and that a date would be announced in January.

Much of the IT work in linking systems has been completed.

As Aer Lingus are leaving around 30 April - It has been much talked about that the 3 new recruits would join at the same time.

JAL do have some good J class tix from Aus-EU... I've seen them seel for between 4500 - 5500 return.

Aer Lingus (EI) leaves 31 March 2007.

I recall reading somewhere that Jal is set to join very soon after EI's withdrawal.

One of the reasons mooted for Jal entering after EI leaving was that EI didn't want to spend the additional dollars on IT upgrades to support Jal entering.

So I'd expect around the end of April thereabouts.

Thanks very much everyone. I hope they'll get it sorted in time for mid-end of May then :D

(Yes I'm thinking of JAL J class. Their meals ex-Japan were pretty good, so I wouldn't mind giving them another try.)
